Labour Commissioner, Dr Matthew Leblanc, has revealed that, to date, close to four hundred Dominicans have received skilled certificates.
skilled certificates facilitate employment for CARICOM citizens within the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
Dr. Leblanc was speaking at the opening ceremony for the first of a two-part labour market information system workshop which got underway here on Monday, November 14.
“We already have significant movement within the CSME with the skills certificate. For Dominica, we already looking at almost four hundred applicants who we have granted CARICOM nationals skill recognition certificates and more than half of that have been moving within the CSME space and finding employment. Also, we have a few persons coming in here (Dominica) to contribute to our national development,” he explained.
Dominica’s Ambassador to CARICOM and the OECS, His Excellency Felix Gregoire encouraged even more Dominicans to take advantage of job opportunities regionally through skilled certificates.
“If you have that skills certificate you do not need a work permit; so I am appealing to our nationals in Dominica to take advantage of that.”
His Excellency Gregoire praised Dominica for being one of two member states who have honoured all arrangements for free movement within CARICOM.
This week’s workshop is a step closer to making employment on the regional market more accessible for all CARICOM citizens.
