“Connect2Government” initiative launched

A “Connect2Government” initiative is part of the latest attempt by the Dominica government to step up its dissemination of information locally and to the Dominican diaspora in various parts of the world.

A government release describes Connect2Government as a quick and efficient way for members of the public to access essential information about government services.

The web application has been launched by the Establishment and Training Department’s Information and Communication Technology Unit (ICTU).

“Connect2Government is a web based help desk system that will allow an operator to query clients’ questions or inquiries using a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) database application,” a Government Information Service release states.

ICTU’s Robert John is quoted as saying that “the Government is now introducing a Customer Call Centre concept so the public will be able to call in to the Customer Call Centre and operators will receive the information and basically use this application to answer queries”.

Members of the general public and also International callers are being informed that they can access this new service by dialing 3000.

According to John, the introduction of this new Information and Communication Technology will allow the general public to interact with the public service in a more progressive manner.

I think government needs to draft a Freedom of Information Law that will allow public offices to to make information available either voluntarily or in response to public request. That way government can hide nothing and there will be more transparency in what they do.

Why? Isn’t that what Lennox Linton and Angelo Allyne are there for? Or am I mistaken?

While Lennox may be a controversial figure but many of the questionable business activities of government would not have been discovered had it not been for his efforts
