Contracts valued at over $500,000 have been signed for community road enhancement in Soufriere Constituency.
The contracts were signed on Tuesday afternoon and the funds were provided by the Soufriere/Scotts Head/Gallion Village Council by the Ministry of Public Works and Ports.
The contracts were signed with McLean Abraham for road enhancement in Soufriere; Byron Hunte for road enhancement in Scotts Head; Tony Bernard for road enhancement in Scotts Head; Franklyn Jervier for road enhancement in the Soufriere area; Claude Andrew for road enhancement in Back Street; Heskeith Michel for road enhancement in Soufriere.
The road rehabilitation projects will take place in the communities of Soufriere and Scotts Head.
Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere Constituency Denise Charles said: “I am very happy to be here today for the signing ceremony of contracts totaling over $500 000. I am pleased that the government we have committed to continue the eradication of dirt roads or the re-enhancement of our community roads.”
She said that she is pleased with the government’s vision to have these projects undertaken by contractors within the communities.
“So that means in each village contractors were selected from the respective villages and that says volumes for our government,” she noted.
Charles added that over $1-million has been spent on road rehabilitation thus far in the constituency.
“If I calculate within a year we have spent over $1-million in the reconstruction of roads in the Soufriere Constituency,” she stated.
Meantime, Charles revealed that over $3-million has been injected into her constituency over a period of one year.
“I also want to say that in doing an evaluation of how much we have actually spent in one year since I became the parliamentary representative I would say by the end of June we would have spent a total of $3 million in the Soufriere Constituency,” she said.
She informed that funds have been injected towards roads, housing and small business development within the constituency.
She noted that the Dominica Labour Party administration has been investing towards the enhancement of communities across the island.
“And that is what I am proud of about our government that we are not only concerned over national development but there is a focus on community development to enhance our communities and also to develop our people,” said Charles.
She stated that the investment in small business development will assist the residents of her constituency improving their business and quality of life.
“That $500,000 in small business is going to help our existing small business in the community expand, enhance what they offer to the public and also to help some people start their own business so they can take care of themselves and their family,” she remarked.
What about the road to Gallion??
DA coming just like a Brief Case; contracts everywhere ..but still shut tight!
I want all of Dominica roads to glitter, the people need good road infrastructure no doubt..but what about the return on investments (ROI) ..after all this money spent will there be more to put into actual sustainable development projects?
Does this gov’t have all ducks lined in a row?..After the spending spree, then what?..are they going to reduce taxes to boost investment? Dominicans need more regular disposable income, money to spend..Invest and support investment..
One day at a time take it easy
The Stepney come out!!!
Well, La po Gabwit……
I don’t agree with you!
I don’t live in the beautiful Dominica but I visit at least once a year, and every time I come – I see big developments.
Particularly in the roads!!!!!! So keep signing those contracts Miss Charles!!
And as for Christopher Columbus, he would be very disappointed when the people of Dominica let him know the truth…..THAT HE DID NOT DISCOVER DOMINICA…….
About time . Yes, you seem to have come to the realization that we will remember for the election .
Don’t shout and beat your chest for $3 million as you say in 1 year. You see how large that constituency is ? you see the amount of work which has to be done in the constituency ? you see the number of unemployed young people in the constituency , you know of the potential projects which could be developed in the constituency ? what is 3 million ein? you think that 500 thousand can do the necessary work on the several roads to be surfaced inside Soufriere and Scott’s Head , you have to be joking .5 and 6 million is being spent and set aside for some villages with less work and smaller populations and constituencies , and you want to shout about dat $500 thousand . Lets see how much work its going to do, if it is ever done and completed ; no vye ki vye stuff .
I’m watching.
Denise
did you hear Blackmore say almost $400 thousand was spent to do 1000 ft of road? how far you think that $500 thousand going to get us in that constituency .
He was justifying the over $7 million he got in one go , not over 3 years .
He takes a big bite from the cake every time , so stop smiling like that ok .
these projects are just to shut the people up and to keep them on the farm. So much money wasted everywhere just to gain favor.
All roads should be maintained/improved. But sections of roads used frequently by tourists etc should be priority, namely the dangerous eyesores leading to Trafalgar. Are they waiting for the road to become unusable or for a major accident before tackling this issue.
What about the coastal road from Grandbay to Scots Head. do it so we can have it named after you. You are the very first lady rep in this constituency. That will be your legacy. So that future young lady parliamentarys will take after you.
What about the road from Point Michel to Soufriere? This road leads to one of the premiere dive sites on the island and now Jungle Bay is relocating to the area. With increased traffic, plus local residents who travel on that road daily, it’s time to for road rehabilitation. These cheap election gimmicks don’t cut it anymore.
So CBI money doing good thanks linton othetwise no hand shaking an picture taking. Hmmmm
Pte Michel is safe Denise don’t need to do any thing there, so she have to concentrate on the scattered SHEEP to bring them into the fold, those corrupt sheep
The taxpayers of Rose Street are still awaiting a proper road after over 13 years with a road in this deplorable condition. Even private dirt roads have been paved in certain parts of the country, while we wait and suffer. Rose Street is a key road that was supposed to link the new link road with the rest of Upper Goodwill. However, because of its deplorable state drivers are forced to avoid it.
Oh the arrogance of this woman makes my blood boil. She is acting as if she is doing her community a favour by fixing roads that should be routine work for any government and taking personal credit for it.. This is not money provided by one particular party only but the government that is supposed to represent and care for all people, not only if you wear a red shirt. And they are talking about unity….please!!
She wants to outdo her own boss the P.M,. by showing how partisan an dedicated she is to only one party. All the rest of her constituents, who don’t support her glorious P.M. can go to hell as far as she is concerned. Well, pride always comes before the fall Denise and the day of reckoning may be near.
What about the rubbish collection in the community is that being addressed too , and the increase in crimes and violence in Pte. Michel . Are you still receiving a stipend of $ 160.00 monthly from the village council while you are MP of the constituency ? Does your Mother have a contract to clean the village of Pte. Michel if so who gave her the contract ? JUST ASKING A FEW QUESTIONS .
What is this small business development that they speak of?
The sad thing is, you see contracts signing everyday and every where but you not seeing the development or improvement. To me this is the worse Dominica has ever been despite the many contract signing ceremony we hear of. The place looks like a ghost town man or better yet, a war zone. Everything is upside down in this damn place and surely Christopher Columbus would be very disappointed to see Dominica today
I take it you don’t travel in Dominica.
No he does not. He does not even know where its located.
What is happening in this blessed land is that there are to many hypocrites professing to be CHRISTIANS and supporting corruption in the highest order, they will all get their quelling at the END time watch and we will see
You are well named, Christopher Columbus. He did not know where he was going and when he got there he did not know where he was. He “discovered ” the New World”. A place with millions of people living in organized settlement and said that those lands belong to no one. He led soldiers to murder the people to steal their property.
Living in America you must be experiencing the real upside down syndrome. Wake up from that nightmare and go to Dominica to see for yourself. Otherwise you will be joining the haters gang of mobsters living in a negative world.

Or Christopher Columbus might be pleased. He would surely recognize Dominica since he last visited because little has changed.
What about the pte Michel community, the road near the community center is deplorable and you live just a few blocks from there, what are you doing in your own village community?.
If you followed other news sources, you would know a contract was signed to have this road some. MR.Registe from Pointe Michel got that contract.
What else?
Road *fixed
well if u was so interested in Pointe Michel u would have realize that contract for that road was sign since last Tuesday, even before the soufriere contract….but that is just all u kind of ppl…stupes tan
