The Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities Incorporated (D.A.P.D. Inc.) is getting set to observe Blind Awareness Month from May 3-31, 2011, under the theme: “Increasing Awareness and Educating the Sighted World about Blindness.
Executive Director of the DAPD Nathalie Murphy says the objectives of the programme are to encourage sight preservation and the need to eliminate avoidable blindness and assist persons with impaired vision to function in an independent capacity as much as possible.
A number of social, educational and fund raising activities are being organized to realize the month’s objectives. These include sale of Sight Preservation Tags, Open House at DAPD and Wheel-a-walk-a-thon and Experiencing Blindness Day.
She says other activities include a Dinner in the Dark, under the patronage of His Excellency the President and Mr. Liverpool.
Educational Sessions at a few primary schools, training Sessions with a few institutions on Working with, and Understanding Persons with Impaired vision have also been planned.
The month’s activities will be officially launched with a Radio Address by the Minister for Health, Hon. Julius Timothy, to be aired on D. B. S. Radio on Tuesday May 3, 2011.

The should increase the awareness of the blind society as they, those( classified as clinically blind )see more than those sewo searching jackasses.They are already served breakfast ,lunch and dinner in the dark at the Red Clinic. They are not even conscience of what is being fed to them.
