Dominica has been named among Caribbean countries leading in hotel development, according to the November Construction Pipeline Report from Smith Travel Research (STR).

Of all the Caribbean countries Haiti reported the largest expected growth in the region, with a total of 753 rooms in the active pipeline.

Other countries reporting significant growth in existing supply are Anguilla, with 28.8 percent growth, or 220 rooms in the pipeline and Dominica with 13.5 percent growth, or 90 rooms in the pipeline.

St Kitts and Nevis reported 11.7 percent growth, with 235 rooms in the active pipeline.

The Turks and Caicos Islands had expected growth of 10.2 percent, or 327 total rooms.

Why SVG commercial- ling there resort & hotels on buses in Europe! And we can’t. I thing the minister of tourism need to do a lot more to take our tourism to the next level, we need a 5star hotel like the rest of the Caribbean islands, if we want to be in the competition …

It’s more than 90. I believe it to be nearer 120.

The small businesses don’t answer the questionnaire from DDA so are hidden. That and local people offering rooms that are not yet registered.

So we are not that far off the rest.

All I can do after reading this story is laugh – laughing at the follish people who would even write that article and laughing at the people who would not have the good sense to realize that this is just pure crap.

Poor Dominica – the loser of the bunch!omce more

Ya, growth is relative eh; 90 rooms?

Dominica is only expanding its accommodation by only 90 rooms whereas the other islands are each building more than 200 additional rooms- another statistic pointing to the fact that Dominica’s economy lags behind other independent territories in the region.

that on the surface is good news. But DDA are a bit inept really and more rooms just means more sharing of the small pot that we already have.

We need extra tourists for the extra rooms right?

Get over to France (Guadeloupe and Martinique) and make sure there are plenty of ads there and generally put a lot more effort into getting their people here.

There is too much money spent on the US, UK and Europe. It’s not the best return on investment. The Caribbean is right here … let us promote ourselves to Barbados, St Maarten, Antigua and St Lucia.

I know that the DHTA goes to New York and Europe having a wonderful time on our money … but it would be better spent locally.

The heads of DHTA all have their own hotels and so only promote them anyway. That has to stop.

Percentage wise growth looks good but actual numbers Dominica is the lowest with 90 new rooms being developed. If we had an international airport can you imagine the number of rooms probably being quadrupled to 360… WE NEED THAT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOLKS…

I really think we do need one but at the same time I am being realistic about the situation at hand. We do not have enough places to acomadate the number of passengers needed to pay the bill to the airlines and airport personals working at the airport. We would need to attract a hefty sizable amount of ppl yearly and accommodate every last one.. We would have to pay for each empty seats the airlines suffer from as well.

In order to achieve this goal one must 1st build accommodation to the masses that would be coming in. We would need better roads and bridges.. All these are taking place right now.. Over time when we are at a more comfyable finical level we could build or accept loans to build the IA.

For now I’m thankful we have something.. We need to work together ppl.

very suprising to know that Haiti is leading Dominica in hotel construction, what is it we are not doing right, Discover Dominica need to focus their attention in marketing Dominica in the right places, ie the use of new york city taxi and limosine association to advertise Dominica on all their taxi operating in new york city, Antigua and st Lucia is doing it in Atlanta, Miami and it seems to be bearing some good results

Very surpassing you seem to forget Haiti got billions from donations from all over the world to rebuild the country… Many hotels including 5 star gold and platinum hotels have already cut deals as part of the rebuild.. So don’t over look what Da is actually doing here. We atleast doing something. We have to start somewhere I wish my ppl would work more together than against with ridicule statements plastered around DNO. Another thing many Dominicans don’t seem to understand… These marketing ads of the other islands are not pushed by the gov of the islands but rather the investors advertising their investments on these islands.. Ie NY cabs showing St.Lucia or St.Kits.. These ads are done by AA or by a resort. Advertising ppl to fly with them there or stay in a room there.. Another ie.. Wheel of fortune.. Many prizes consist of nights and weeks at RESORTS. in the respected islands..

So we need more investors that’s the key.. We need to attract more investors with them they will market our shores for us… We get free promos they get rewarded for taking advantage of our eye candy island..

Guess you forgot that Haiti suffered a major earthquake in 2010 which would mean that most of their hotel capacity may have become non-existance. From 1 to 2 is 100%…get my drift?

They must lead because alot of what they had was destroyed so it has to be rebuilt DUH
Other countries have their established hotels already. I’ll rejoice when I see cash flowing through the country in abundance. Until that time this news isn’t anything to rejoice about IMO.
