Dominica and China celebrate seven years of diplomatic relations

Wednesday, March 23, 2011, marked seven years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Dominica and China.

Relations between the two countries have been described by government officials as the fastest growing cordial diplomatic relationship that Dominica has had with any country in the world since attaining independence.

Since the establishment of relations, Dominica has benefitted from a number of infrastructural projects funded by the government of China.

The Roseau to Portsmouth Road Rehabilitation Project is the third of four pillar projects agreed to in a memorandum of understanding between the governments of Dominica and China when the two countries formed diplomatic relations.

Since that historic day in Beijing on March 23, 2004, the Windsor Park Stadium has been completed and two phases of the new Dominica Grammar School have also been completed.

The total rehabilitation of the Princess Margaret Hospital is the fourth project that will be financed by way of grants by the Chinese government.

The government of Dominica has adhered to the “one China policy”, which is the cornerstone of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

My fellow Dominicans please there is no such thing as a free lunch, no one is going to just give you something for nothing the government needs to make the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) available to the public. Dont you find it strange that for seven (7) years we still dont know what we would have to give in return. Please take heed,

Seven years of assult on our cultural identity, second class citizenship staus, destruction of our
environment with cheap chinese imports, beggars, destruction of our small businesses and nonproductive consumers. All in exchange for a few projects we could build our selves.
