Dominica to receive solar street lights from Chinese government

street lightsThe Chinese Government has agreed to provide 2,500 LED solar lights with poles to the Government of Dominica, according to ambassador Wang Zonglai.

Wong wrote in a Sun Newspaper article that the move will help “mitigate the adverse effects of climate change to Dominica and improve social well-being.”

The move, according to the ambassador, will help save a large quantity of electricity “which means the burden of government budget can also be mitigated.”

“With the use of green energy, Dominica will also attract more attention in the region as the Nature Island,” Wang said.

In the same article, Wang wrote that China Railway 17 Bureau Construction Group Corporation (CRCC), which constructed the E.O Le Blanc Highway, will voluntarily construct a leisure square with fitness equipment in Fond Cole near the highway.

Construction of the square will possibly begin next year.

See what the park will look like below.

By the way Mr. Mayor of Roseau. Do something about the lights on the bridges. It is a crying shame that on the original bridges the lighting is so poor. I cannot even see who is walking towards me at nights.

Are these the same lights that were used on the Chinese bridge and the Goodwill Link Road?

What have religious beliefs to do with this? Are you equating non-belief with a lack of integrity or no morals?

Yes, the Chinese Government appear to be buying their way into Dominica so they have a permanent outlet for their their goods, but this is purely economics on their behalf. Nobody is forcing Dominica to take their goods and loans.

And, if the street lights are in fact a gift, no strings attached, then a “thank-you” would be appropriate.

So china can recognize we need facilities such as these but our government can’t? Spending almost 30 million on a presidential palace while there are barely any recreational areas and proper sporting facilities all over the country? Kudos to the chinese government and here’s hoping that this isn’t just some empty promise to gain points with the electorate.

Thank you my Chinese friends. We are very grateful for all your help but the community of Fondcole would be much more appreciative if we had a proper playing field for our children to unwind and release their fraustrations. Think of the many benefits of such a facility socially physically and mentally.

    September 9, 2013

Have Dominicans heard that information about leisure Park to be built in Fond Cole from Govt./ Parl. Reps or from the relevant Ministry?

While the Chinese Ambassador mentions about Leisure Park, the whole area where Public works operated for decades, will soon be occupied by the Chinese to build a hotel. How much is the Chinese paying for that PWC area?

Where is the input, participation of the citizens of Fond Cole in the development of their community? What is the best development project for the area?

Instead of the Chinese getting the PWC area for hotel, why not a comprehensive plan, after consultation with the people, for community enlargement? Wouldn’t the people of Fond Cole be happier if they were given the opportunity to discuss the issue of community development – cultural and economic?

New colonial times engulfing us. It is said that “beggars are no choosers.” So development “aid’ is handed out. We revere them as Gods who come to save the poor souls. Projectsto the Chinese construction Co., even though locals have to sit and watch.

So many can’t see further than the tip of their noses. So many do not understand the machinations of those powerful countries. Sovereignty gone. The country has been sold Big time and many won’t see. Mental slavery is still clouding our better judgements.

How about a children’s park in a little corner of the Botanical Gardens. Not just for the children of Dominica but families with young children who visit would appreciate it also. There could be job opportunities for professional child care services, looking after the children by offering Creche facilities. Dominican mothers may be able to leave their children in safety and fun when they want to do a little shopping. The Gardens are under used with many people using it as a drive through.

Any new street light going up should be solar, similarly, our new grand errection, the state house should also have at least 60% Solar and 100% solar hot water, to date it’s a wet dream for Domlec. How else are we to be the ecotourism capital of the world.. Costa Rica has all sorts of issues from shark finning to destruction of turtle habitat, we lead them by far…

Exactly my sentiments. Correct me if am wrong. If a goverment’s administration makes ties with a particular country, does the agreements still stand, does the relation continue even after a change of administration? A Lovely MULTI- FACETED Project that fits into Dominica’s branding as the “Nature Island of the Caribbean”. It is in line with our Eco-Tourism product, the quest for utilizing renewable energy as a foundation for Integrated Sustainable Development.

It fits into Dominica’s response to climate change, reduction of cost of, and reliance on fossil fuels and it will reduce our CARBON Footprint.

It will help improve night-traffic conditions and reduce the incidence of undue accidents in dark sections of Road or Community.

Moreover, it will elevate the aesthetics of Urban setting and improve quality of life (security and movement & community activities) in rural setting.

It would be good if they are brighter than the ones at the port to Pottersville – it was a good start though!

That should have been accomplished before the stadium, before the road, even before the school…now street lights? Just sayin’ Can’t you be thankful for the many blessings in the form of those already received? You sound like a negative who cannot be grateful for small things and no matter what will still complain finding fault in everything. For example if the the Hospital was finished, then you would complain about lights, stadium etc.

Get a grip of yourself and be thankful for not giving thanks in smaller things, you cannot receive the bigger rewards.

The hospital is still oon the table and will proceed, however it is up to the hospital administration to get off their collective wide loads and make it happen.
