The Dominica/China Friendship Bridge has reopened following a period of closure.

The bridge, located next to the Roseau Market, suffered serious damage during the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on August 27, and since then has been under repairs.

Damage to the bridge also forced organizers to scrap Market Day with a Difference at the Roseau Market this year.

“The Friendship bridge is now reopened, leading to less traffic congestion in Roseau. Thanks to all who worked hard,” Minister of Tourism and Urban Development, Robert Tonge, said on his Facebook page.

In 2012, the EC $8 million bridge was officially opened and was constructed with Chinese grant funds over a 17-month period.

During its opening, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit described it as an important piece of infrastructure in Dominica’s road network.

He said the government continues to make all attempts to bring the country’s road network to an acceptable standard.

Why is there still a sign this morning saying that the bridge is under construction so tourists in partlicular should not traverse that area?

Hello and good evening my people. Well its good to know that the bridge was repaired and is now open but the fact remain that this bridge is to low. The Government need to dredge the river all the way to Bath Estate in that way they would be able to control the water flow otherwise branches will continue to block the flow and damage the bridge.

DNO that is very much wrong reporting. The Friendship Bridge it self was not damaged. It was the maid sewer and waste water lines running under and across the entrance of the bridge that was severely damaged.

All the manholes were also damaged and had to be restored. The contractor and his crew must be complimented for working night and day in such hazardous and unhealthy condition to have the use of the bridge restored.

Men were actually working in smelly human waste in the river to restore the sewer and waste water lines.
compliments to all the workers involved.
