Dominicans could be impacted by Trump presidency says Gabriel Christian

Dominican-born , US-based attorney Gabriel Christian, has highlighted the potential impact of a Donald Trump US presidency on Dominica and the Caribbean.

Christian told Dominica News Online (DNO) in a recent interview, that the election of Trump as President of the United States has shocked him and many others. He said the policies which Trump advocated during his campaign require in depth revision.

“Unless he takes a 180 degree turn away from the policies he promoted in the campaign, it will be a catastrophe for America and the World” Christian stated.

He said some of the issues that arise with Trump becoming US President will, to some extent, have an impact on the many students and Dominican-born individuals who are living in the U.S and the businesses that have been established in the U.S by Dominicans as well as those in Dominica by U.S. citizens.

“The more money that Dominica has in the United states as disposable income, is the more they can invest in Dominica or help their families in Dominica,” he pointed out. “If there is a conflict in the United States because of racial violence or any other issue, the U.S economy will suffer and all those within it will suffer within the context of remittances to Dominica.”

Christian stressed that the Dominican people must focus on the development of the country in different areas such as science and technology and “using the best resources in due season.”

Although the Dominican people should be mindful of the occurrences in the U.S, total priority should not be placed on these occurrences but rather on the betterment of the home country Dominica, he advised.

“Every disappointment is a blessing. This is a time for us to work harder, smarter and more united,” he said.

Linking different methods of development to results such as better agriculture and energy systems, Christian urged Dominicans to “rely more on our resources and our people and stop looking for some white knight on a white horse coming to save the day.”

He said there needs to be a recognition of the already existing education that the Dominican people possess.

  1. To the so called Bumbble Lee, and all those shallow minded people who agrees with the lie he told I am going to write something, although I know that idiot will not understand what he/she read; I will write it anyway!

The delegates to the Constitutional Convention who met in Philadelphia in the spring of 1787 quickly agreed to abandoned the article in favor of constructing a stronger federal system. That resulted in a bicameral Congress, an independent presidency, and a supreme court, with a system of checks and balances to prevent the abuse of power, became the main features of the constitution of the United States.

Therefore, Donald Trump cannot decide he is going to deport one single person from the United States without the approval of the Congress and the Senate of the United States. Here is something you need to know about American government and the constitution.

In regards to the Executive Branch of government; the constitution provided for the establishment of the presidency in Article II. As the native born on the island of Nevis: Alexander Hamilton had put it from the beginning; the presidential article aimed toward “energy in the Executive.” It did so in an effort to overcome the natural stalemate that was built into the bicameral legislature as well as into the separation of powers among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

The constitution afforded the president a measure of independence from the people and from the other branches of government; particularly the Congress. Now here what is given to the President!

In line with the framers’ goal of increased power to the national government, the president was granted the unconditional power to accept ambassadors from other countries; this amounted to the power to recognize other countries. The president was also given the power to negotiate treaties,…

    • Continuation:

The president was given the unconditional right to grant reprieves, and pardons, except in cases of impeachment.

The president was provided with the power to appoint major departmental personal, to convene Congress in special sessions, and to veto congressional enactment. The veto power is formidable; however, it is not absolute, since Congress can override it by a two-thirds vote. The framers of the constitution hoped to create a presidency that would make the federal government rather than the state agency capable of timely and decisive actions to deal with public issues, and problems. That was the meaning of “energy” that Nevis born Hamilton hoped to impart to the executive branch.

At the same time, however, the framers sought to help the president to withstand excessively democratic pressure by making him subject to indirect rather than direct election (through his selection by a separate electoral college)..

Trump do not have the power to simply deport anybody at random, nor can he revoke any body citizenship, unless the congress amend the constitution to cause that to happen; sit your behind in Dominica and talk sot, Skerrit dictatorship don’t register in America, in American Government it is not a one man show. And if anybody want to challenge me on what they read here go right ahead make yourselves fools. I can also educate my foes on how the Judicial Branch of Government works here, I can also educate on the constitutional limit of the national government power!

There is a duplication of the same it got there by accident!

If Americans are unsatisfied with Trump and his policies, there’s something called the mid term elections. Furthermore, Trump will not be able to do half of the things he promised on the campaign trail. I lived in America during the George Bush years, and the sky did not fall out. Trump is 70 years old. By the end of his first term he will be 74 years old. Father time is and will be always be undefeated.

for all those idiots that not living here but want to say what good or bad for America. Shut all you @55 up let people that live this educate you on what you don’t know. Trump is a racist voted in by racist America and as people of African ancestry living in America we fear for our lives sometimes just walking the streets because we are black and white America targets us from police, to business, schools etc. Trump promotes divisions, hatred, sexism, racism, (long list). Its just sad that so many intelligent people sided with a man that didn’t rent his buildings out to minorities or didn’t want black people counting his money. It just saddens me that so many Americans believe in the same things as he did and Dominicans are following

Well well it looks like even Dominicans are part of the CTR campaign bombing all comments in support of DT with thumbs down. Or are they just gullible uninformed people who really believed that Hillary Clinton was really the best choice. I’m betting a lot of them bought the media lies that trump was racist and sexist and what not. Up till this day nobody can show proof of where Trump has been any of those things save for a few clips that they completely twist out of context.

They tried to tarnish his name so that he would not win the election; the wickedness of them. I was not moved by what they stated.
Hillary was so disappointed she could not make a speech that night. She waited until next day. Trump stated she called him next day and only congratulated him. You heard what he told her. He was complimentary to her.
As I have previously stated, I am elated that Hillary did not win.
A few people I know in Toronto – Dominicans whom I spoke to did not support Trump. I have not spoken to these since the election. I will later, especially one. I bet their tune will not change.
You know what, I know them well enough and do not expect any better from them. When they bashed Trump, without pointing a finger, I replied, but look at how many people are not nice. We have politicians here too. Their minds are clogged. I do not argue with them. I only diplomatically say, you have your opinion and I have mine. This averts an argument.

Trump is a God-send; a welcome change. He must be given a chance. I hope he cleans up America. I realize he will have difficulty doing so. He has to deal with Congress. We will see.
When Obama won twice, as a so-called black person,, there were no demonstrations in the US or elsewhere. Now note what the opponents are doing.
I heard on US Catholic Radio that a man said, “a man advertised for demonstrators”. He paid them. A name of the organizer was called but I did not hear the name.
As I have been hearing on the Eternal Word Television Catholic Network – TV and Radio, the genuine practicing Catholics in the US are elated that Trump won. They prayed for him and continue to do so. The Hierarchy too. He was interviewed on EWTN. One said, “God answered their prayers.”
Hillary would have destroyed the US and the unborn babies in the mothers’ wombs and more. If you wish you can go to http://www.ewtn.com
There are hundreds of Catholic Radio Stations in the US.

Christian urged Dominicans to “rely more on our resources and our people and stop looking for some white knight on a white horse coming to save the day.”–News Article

Mr. Christian Sir, your statement above sounds like a conclusion of your mind, but what does it mean?

What proof do you have that “Dominican’s are looking for some white knight on a white horse coming to save the day”? The fact that you used the term “stop” it indicates that you know this is happening isn’t it?

And if you cannot prove your allegation, affirmation, or assertion, then you have done nothing else, but insult the citizens of Dominica and most definitely, the men and women in Leadership or Authority–I believe that we are doing fine without your advise, because you are not genuine about it.

    • “Mr. Christian Sir, your statement above sounds like a conclusion of your mind, but what does it mean?” (Elizabeth Xavier).

Elizabeth the man is correct; the question you have asks, is a foolish, and ridiculous one. It is not a conclusion of his mind, it is reality. People like you see life in Dominica in one way; and that is dependency on others no matter who they are for handouts!

In Dominica, it is about borrowing money to pay civil servants, and Skerrit, and his puppets; no one is thinking of borrowing and investing into viable and constructive projects that will help generate revenue into the country. So, our nation passports are sold, politicians and their puppets clone get rich off the proceeds.

Friends are given free money from the sale of passports to build so called hotels, meanwhile whereas it is imperative to build an International Airport in the country which should help boost the influx of tourist into the country, that is not on the agenda of Skerrit and his…

    • Continue:

That is not on the agenda of Skerrit and his government. The proceeds form the sale of Dominica passports should be used in the construction of an International Airport, that should be the purpose and be stolen and given to friends.

In Dominica the horse comes before the stable, and when the storm comes along the owner runs around like a chicken with its head chopped off in the storm trying to build the stable. These three so called hotels are going to be like all the other so called on the island, they will remain empty, and eventually be abandoned, or as in the case of Erika, another storm will come and they will all perish!

What come light goes light! Wealth obtained by devious and cynical means, or by thievery never last, nor flourishes!

    • And by the way Elizabeth, as far as I believe; Christian may be a supporter of your god that Mountain Chicken Carpaud Mentality Sly Eye Sir Knight Me Almost Nearly Cousin and you know the names I call him in the other forum, which I can’t use here: Indian doctor of nothing Roosevelt Skerrit.

In any event Gabriel has the never and pride to speak the truth, whether or not I disagree with him about his concept of the effects Trump presidency will have on the Caribbean, I must support his idea in the areas where he is correct.

For years the nation remain waiting for that white Knight in silver amour to come along and save Dominica. If that was going to happen under Dominica’s present condition of backwardness, and lack of progress it would have long happened!

The truth is wealthy people do not invest money in a place where the see only backwardness, and lack of progress, when in modern times like these you shy away for building an International Airport, and talking crap…

  10. Gabriel I don’t think anybody in Dominica should worry about occurrences in America, with what goes on in Dominica politically. One way or the other it boils down to our people and our ambitions. Right now most of all of our people who travel aboard to study, never return, and those who return are not ambitious to chance it and create some sort of business, they prefer to become puppets to Roosevelt Skerrit, depending on handouts, looking for a position in government.

When one speak about technology in Dominica; one wonders in what area of technology you have in mind. I that case I would anticipate R&D would be going on in order to have something to be exported, and sold internationally bringing in money, and creating employment. Our people do not think that way okay! All they see is a blasted piece of red cloth, and Skerrit!

Francisco, the greatest error one can make, as in your case is to generalize and place everyone in one category. When I read these types of words, I feel insulted.
You are a D/can. You should know that even though D/cans, everyone is not one and the same. We do not even think alike and our background, family and other are not the same. This does not mean we cannot get along, be amicable and be a good Samaritan.
Some D/cans return home for their personal reason; not for the identical reason. Whatever their reason, I say good for them. It is not my business. I do not ask why they returned home. I mind my own business. It is not my concern.
As St. Paul told us, “Mind our business/affairs.” This is how I lived in Dominica and this is how I live in Canada. To further state, this was the manner in which my parents lived and nurtured their children. Therefore, do some of us a favor. Know better. Do not place us in one basket. Remember this in the future.

United States of America President Elect, Republican Donald Trump played his cards right, defied the pollsters, defied the establishment by doing what was politically correct and smart to do to win the recently concluded US Presidential Elections.

I remembered Roosevelt Douglas playing an equally dirty campaign in 2000 to win in a collision with Charles Savarin. Rosie paid the price for the pact he signed with the Devil, today Charles is President… the flood gates to voodoo has opened up with thousands of Haitians flooding our shores like poule bwa…

Well DT promises to deport all foreigners with criminal records… I AGREE WITH HIM

Canada has been doing that for some years, if they are not landed. Depending on their crimes, if they are a naturalized Canadian, their citizenship could also be revoked. After serving time in prison, they will be deported.
It is high time! These people are useless to the country. All they do is commit crimes, living off the avails of people. They could also murder and injure people. It costs the taxpayers to keep them in prison and also pay for lawyer representation. It also costs money to deport them. I do not think they leave the country without money. The government probably gives them some funds. I must inquire about that.
I always thought when people migrate to a country it is for their betterment; not to get involved in crimes. They hurt law-abiding nationals, costing them money. They also hurt the economy which must pay their way as previously mentioned and are a menace to society. Surely, they should not be kept in the country.

I was Dominican and i voted for Donald Trump cause I LOVE HIS POLICIES. For example he said The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period,” the position paper began. Trump went on to explain that the right to keep and bear arms is a right that pre-exists both the government and the Constitution, noting that government didn’t create the right, nor can it take it away. He also rightly denoted the Second Amendment as “America’s first freedom,” pointing out that it helps protect all of the other rights we hold dear.
Owing a gun is your first freedom, Dominicans hate freedom and want to take guns away.

    • Tell the Truth
      November 14, 2016

I cannot see this ever happening, taking away the rights of Americans to bear arms. The amount of guns there are in America and in the hands of also criminals, how could this be stopped? If that right is taken away, the criminals will create more havoc on those Americans who do not bear arms. Even though I do not like guns which kill people, in this case, Trump is right. I am certain he, too and his family have guns. Therefore, if he takes away that right, he will not have one and he will be vulnerable to criminals.

You are even a bigger idiot than your vote for Trump. Did you need the vagina-grabber Trump to tell you about the second amendment?! And is that the only reason you voted for him? It is empty heads like you who abuse the power of the vote that cause some people to look forward to a dictatorship.

Mr Christian I am disappointed in you explanation above. Yes Dominica need development yes Dominica needs all it people including resourceful Diaspora but the effects you explained above borders on fear. Dominica still need tourists, the majority of which come from North America. We still need buyer for our goods and services. China Russia and Venezuela does not buy what we selling. It is mostly other islands and the over 13 million Caribbean Diaspora leaving in the States. That is the market we have not yet fully tapped. You know should know better that the US government system does not allow for people like Trump to flourish. He cannot change established rules or ties without Congress and a judiciary that are all independent. Look he has already changed on Obama care. Trump may be able to do some stuff on executive order but limited. The US political system is going through a test. There are strong institutions not strong men so everything will be fine. Any worst and he not making 4

Well written well explained. You must be a very intelligent person. I like that comment of yours

    • You know it is one thing to express an opinion, but in doing so we must be realistic too! You mentioned some thirteen million West Indians living in America, that means you are talking about more West Indians living here than was perhaps ever born.

From whence this static’s derived, and where can I get copies of that. Secondly, you spoke of an American market, true and correct; there is a vast market here for everything; nevertheless, how can one “Dominicans” taped into a market when we do not produce anything in Dominica to sell internationally?

If you are concentrating on Agriculture, anything you produce in Dominica from the soil are sold across the United States. All of what we produce in Dominica are imported from South America, and Central America, and as far as the Philippine and other places in the South Pacific, and Mexico.

Last week I bought yams imported from Africa, and that species of yam we do not have in Dominica, So what are we going to use to tap into…

It’s also time to rescue our country from the hands of the disastrous so called elites that have seized the power of the electorate and ruling Dominica according to their dictates. It’s time for all Dominicans to come together and release Dominica from the hands of these so called plutocrats that keep promoting poverty, greed and hedonism.

From the inception of your guy Obama, the democratic party have lost over a 1000 seats.

John Charles little of what you say make sense. You clearly have not the slightest understanding of sociology and why there is black on black crime. You sound like you are someone with a level of self hate at being black – a typical syndrome of black conservatives. So of course you will support someone like Trump that belittles blacks and incites racial hatred toward them.

@ Dante Jones – What about the fact that his base is overwhelming white rural and blue collar – the prototypical racial discriminator. Do you think it is an accident they support him in such large numbers – or they are responding to the dog whistle to “put other racial groups back into a more subservient position? Or what about all the white supremacy groups that support his message of make America a “white nation” Or what about his refusal to rent to blacks in the 80’s? Or what about his appointment this week of a white supremacist as his top white house strategist. Sticking your head in the sand can be a deadly thing my friend.

I can tell you if Trump had done that, the US Catholic Church would not have supported him. Of course the Church could not tell the laity who to vote for but they diplomatically spelled out the difference between the two candidates; no names mentioned..
One early morning I heard an inspiring talk by a US Priest. I was sorry I was not able to tape it.
Obama did much harm to US Christians with his HHS Mandate. If you follow the US Catholic News on http://www.ewtn.com and radio affiliates, you would know.
I am also happy for them that Trump won. He turned pro-life. He got the majority of Catholics and Evangelists votes. The latter is obviously happy that Trump won. Woe to them if Hillary had won.

  31. Well, let us say if Donald Trump campaign policies are implemented; indeed they will have an effect on Dominica students who came here to study, and remain illegal. It will also affect those who came under the pretence of a vacation, and never return, and are here living illegally.

Nevertheless, those of us who are American citizens, Donald Trump cannot touch us; there is nothing he can do about us, or any business we are involved into; there is nothing he can do to those of us who has already sworn allegiance to the United States, and holds American citizenship, even if one is found committing treason; for which the penalty would simply be spending time in jail, even for life!

Citizenship cannot be revoked, however, one is free to denounced, or renounce their citizenship, as that man Ron Green has done when he foolishly thought he was about to fulfil his dream of becoming Dominica’s Prime Minister. In any event since Trump seems to be a loose crazy cannon , one can expect…

Trump seems to be a loose crazy cannon , one can expect some ridiculous changes to the United States immigration rules where it pertains to the Caribbean, and the rest of the world.

Already there are many Dominicans who had Green Cards, who went home and believe they could remain there and return at random, many of those people Green Card was taken away, because a Green Card means Permanent Residence, if you have it and residing in another country, you have automatically lost your permanent residency status.

Even those people who comes once each year, and return home are at risks of loosing their permanent residency.

Trump has his advisors. He also has the Catholic Christian Church praying for him. I heard on the US Catholic Radio how many Catholics and Evangelists voted for Trump. The reason is, Trump who was once pro-abortion turned pro-life. This pleased the Catholic Church and other Christian Churches. Hilary would have destroyed every good in America including being pro-abortion and pro-euthanasia, assisted suicide and the likes.
Let go of Hillary. Let Trump be President. See what he can do. Pray for America, for Trump and his administration. This is the least and the most you can do. Anyway God expects this of you, of all Americans to pray for their country. In so doing, you will receive blessings and graces from God.

      • When are you going to stop your foolishness lady?

Nobody cares about your Roman Catholic foolishness! Roman Catholics are irrelevant in American politics!

You are running of you mouth, as if you are an authority on Trump, he won the electoral votes, nevertheless, Hilary won the majority of the votes “the popular votes” that is why even as of today, people are still demonstrating against Trump going into the white house.

Trump is a hated man in America, you as a black person is an idiot if you love a man who hates you as a black person, the man discriminates against you. In his campaign he influence his supporters to attack and beat black people ; we saw them did it on Television in his rally’s; are you so dumb, or simply crazy?

Why are you so stupid, and keep talking that crap about Roman catholic church. That is a false religion dominated and rule by Satan!

I read this article 3 times…..i could not highlight one fact to substantiate Dr christian’s claim as noted in the headline of the story……. my simple question is “how is the trump presidency going to adversely affect Dominica?

    • But; Gabriel Christian is not a medical doctor you know; nor do I know he has a doctorate in law. The man is a legal practitioner, in that he practices of law, I believe in Maryland. You know in America there are no QC, Barristers, and doctor in law degrees.

In Dominica that is inherited crap from the British colonial system! Titles do not play out in America, you are either a good lawyer in the field of law you chose to practice, other than that you are just a lawyer!
