Excavation works on Cochrane Road to be completed by December

Ongoing excavation on the Cochrane Road

Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Valley Constituency, Dr. John Collin McIntyre said the government is looking at completing excavation works on the Cochrane Road by December.

He and several public works officials, contractors and the media toured several sites where roadworks were taking place.

Communities visited included the Roseau Valley, Wall House, Giraudel and Eggleston to name a few.

The project will cost the government $11.2 million.

“What we have going here is the construction of the new Cochrane Road,” he said. “I am very impressed with this sort of progress that I see, of course, we had a number of climatic events/weather events taking place over a period of time. It has sort of slowed us down, we are hopefully looking to, taking into consideration the weather. We are looking at probably trying to complete the excavation works by December.”

According to him, the road was always a narrow one and was an old estate road with a number of edge failures.

McIntrye went on to that the government have promised the people of Cochrane to build them a proper road, “and this is no joke.”

He said in spite of the fact that the Cochrane population is not the largest population in Dominica, the government saw it fit to cater to the needs of the people.

The contractor is Jacques Gaddarkhan.

Larger roads mean larger vehicles and larger equipment can reach these small towns, which in turn allows for people to start small industries to manufacture and ship from that area. It also allows for building supplies toward development to reach the area. I think thats an area the government has embarked upon but but the majority of roads need to be expanded to allow for development and well as smaller ports that can receive and ship local supplies an equipment built in coastal small towns. There’s obviously the management and security aspects of that but if 50% is privatized owned by the local community through their investment they can be held accountable through built in administrative and audit mechanisms centralized by the main port in Roseau.

Boy we cannot say God is not good because is only because of his grace and mercy many people have not been buried on that road. Do we have a government? Do they even have a parlrep? I can’t believe what I seeing man. And the sad thing is, so long I know they working on this road and the many times this cochran road has been closed I cannot believe the parlrep and minister saying that it will not be until December EXCAVATION will be completed. But Mark you elections will be before December so no wonder they telling the people government looking at ending excavation in December. But the minister so hopeless that he saying it’s a small population but government giving them the road they deserve. But the shocking thing is the road will cost $11.2 million dollars but to me they built a bridge in Roseau that was less important for far more than what the road will cost. You see corruption?

Thank you very much..exactly the comparison I was thinking regarding the cost of the Bridge. Just give ppl time and the truth will come out through their continuous lies..
I wish the ppl of Cochrane well, and I hope the road is completed soon..All of Dominica deserves to be treated fairly and not just those who vote for the government and also regardless of the size of the population.

I wish Jacques Gaddarkhan would remedy the colossal blunder that was made under his contract at Antrim.
