Former MP receives award in New York

Loreen Robert-Bannis

Former Member of Parliament for Castle Bruce Loreen Bannis-Roberts has been awarded the ‘Woman of Great Esteem Emerald Award’ in New York, an honor recognizing the contributions of women who have excelled beyond normal expectations in a multi-cultural society.

Bannis-Roberts, liaison officer-diaspora affairs for Dominica, was among four granted the award at the Palm House on the grounds of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens last Saturday.

She also received a certificate of ‘Special Congressional Recognition’ for outstanding and invaluable service to community.

“Hard work and perseverance have paid off and commitment to country and passion to serve has not gone unnoticed,” Bannis-Roberts stated.

Jean Joseph, a Dominican living in New York, nominated Roberts for the award.

Bannis-Roberts described the award as one for the Castle Bruce community and those “who have supported and prayed for me over the years”.

The ‘Woman of Great Esteem Emerald Award’ was established in 1995, a product of QKingdom Ministries, Inc. It has recognized more than 140 women from 27 countries, from North and Central America, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Liason Officer-Diaspora Affairs? What tasks does Laureen Bannis-Roberts perform? What kind of salary does she receive? What is there to liaise? With a Minister of diasporan Affairs and institutional support of an entire Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a permanent ambassador to the UN and other foreign Affairs personnel in New York, several Dominican professionals and groups abroad, added to all those, with advances in modern communication technology, why should the Dominican TAX PAYERS be burdened with that extra expense?

What extra important work is being done by the Liaison Officer and what have been the results or benefits? Is the job to mobilise Dominicans overseas to contribute more to the national economy? Is it to convince them to return home to invest and share their skills? Or is it to further mobilise Dominicans in the diaspora to come down in massive numbers with free plane tickets and cash to vote for a particular Party and return the following day, leaving those on island to face the burning heat? Anyway one analyzes the situation, the thousands upon thousands of dollars spent for a Liaison Officer-Diaspora Affairs with everything else that comes with that position, is a complete waste of TAX PAYERS MONEY.

That money could be better used to increase the market share in the region and internationally for our AGRICULTURAL products. While our farmers are bawling, agriculture neglected, unemployment especially among the youth rising significantly, other productive sectors reeling, such high paying jobs are however created for certain men and women given their political leanings and affiliations. The TAX PAYERS of Dominica await a status report on the achievements of Lauren Bannis-Roberts since she took up that job of Liaison Officer-Diaspora Affairs. The people have a RIGHT TO KNOW.

You did indeed excel normal expectations when you crossed the floor of the House. The people who voted for you will be for ever grateful, I’m sure.

Since Lennox spoke of Vince Henderson and Loreen Bannis-Roberts lack of representation overseas on Dominica’s behalf, they both suddenly start shinning.

Way to go, Dominicans. Smell the coffee.

    Congrats Mrs. Bannis well done!

Even if someone has a different political opinion, give the woman her roses man sheesh!

I’m a muslim and I do not participate in the voting process however, I contribute to my community in many other ways.

We have to learn to swallow sometimes our political opinions and give people their roses while they are alive. Do it for the love of our country. It is this envy and jealousy that retards many of us as a people.

What is wrong in saying, ‘congrats Mrs. Bannis, though we may not agree politically we look forward to your contributions for the development of Dominica,’ or something like this. This is what freedom of speech is all about, the ability to agree or disagree ethically and academically. Thus we must be thankful for the blessings of freedom of speech Allah has granted us and use it responsibly.

“Bannis-Roberts, liaison officer-diaspora affairs for Dominica”
This has to be the biggest joke and obviously waste of Dominica’s tax money.

really people…? “Hard work and perseverance have paid off and commitment to country and passion to serve has not gone unnoticed,” ….ha ha ha…passion for getting paid ? I’m tired of women getting shine for thing that are irrelevant. If we are equal, then why when a man does something it goes unnoticed but a moman does the same thing and she’s glorified(thing about it)…..But hey.. I guess it woman time..Smh
