Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has revealed plans of his government to have a Marriott Hotels & Resorts constructed in the north of the island.
He said at the Toucari Village feast on Sunday that negotiations are underway on the matter.
“The Marriott will also want to have a presence in the north of Dominica,” Skerrit said. “There are still negotiations taking place, so we continue to pray that those negotiations will be successful. So that not only Kempinski will be here and Hilton, but we will also have a Mariott Hotel in Dominica.”
The Prime Minister noted that great things are in store for the country.
A 160-room Cabrits Resort Kempinski is presently being constructed in the north of the island. It was also announced last year that Hilton Worldwide will be developing Tranquility Beach Resort in Salisbury. Both are being constructed under the island’s citizenship by investment program.
Marriott Hotels & Resorts is Marriott International’s flagship brand of full-service hotels and resorts. The company, based in Washington D.C., is repeatedly included on the Forbes Best Companies to Work for list, and was voted the fourth best company to work for in the UK by The Times in 2009.
As of September 2013, there were 505 hotels and resorts operating under the brand. The loyalty program is called Marriott Rewards.

Mister wants to wear a $1,000.00 pair of socks in a $1.00 pair of shoes. Way to go Dominica.
In making such a decision was the clientele base of Mariott hotel analyzed and the product we offer considered. We would have realized that the patrons of the Mariott’s and the Kep’s are the high rollers looking for the neon light after dark till dark!! In her tranquility of rest Dominica is not the sort of destination to attract these ravers of wreckers nor should it by any means necessary desire these not so environmentally minded visitors to its shores. By definition we should be seeking to invite the likes of High End Eco Chain resorts
Skerritt gives you just enough to want you to vote for him next election around. It’s good baiting… He realizes that he doesn’t have to prove anything to Dominicans…. afterall they are used to waiting 20 years for a groundbreaking or press releases like this with no action for 10 years… Dominicans created this monster (the political climate).
And while people here continue the 40 year old moan about the lack of an international airport … know this.. the money building these hotels are not our own. foreigners seem to see the potential in our country and spend real dollars in hotel plant .. all we can do is whine about the lack of a $2 billion airport that we cannot pay for and may not even need. Yes. I said it .. ask yourself why it is that LIAT is busy trying to avoid landing here, and when they are forced to are coming in at less than 50% capacity? who here would buy a 10 ton truck when you only have 2 box of fig to carry? Do your research about the 1000’s of successful resorts and destinations which do not have close air access (clue: most ski resorts) and the kind of tourists who come here looking for unspoiled nature. no.. continue to bury your head in the international airport sand while other destinations are busy doing the real work of upgrading their human resource, marketing strategies, exotic agriculture…
Are you an idiot?
All Roosevelt does is lie to people like you, who does not have enough commonsense to realize Skerrit is only running off his mouth.
If you were not an idiot you would suggest that Skerrit find the money that is needed to build an International Airport before he keep farting from lying mouth talking about he is negotiating with anybody to build hotel in a backward place without an International Airport.
Hotel operators such as Marriott which owns a chain of Hotels, in the thousands depend on the volume of people who register in their hotel, about three years ago during a Cricket Match in Dominica I heard one commentator said when ask there are seven hundred hotels room in the country, and even at festival time they are filled.
When I ask a permanent businessman if that is true, he confirmed that to be true: No hotel chain operator will go to Dominica and build a four bedroom house and call it a hotel.
And if the Moroccan as you claim is not built with…
If the Moroccan as you claim is among those not built with Dominica money, as if you and Skerrit have money to build hotel, Is standing there decaying unfinished; do you believe any reputable organization will get into you all confusions and mess to waste their investors money to pleas you and Skerrit?
Another important reason why Marriott Hotel won’t invest in Dominica, we do not have a proper hospital.
I will believe it when I see.
I will believe it when I see it.
That will be good for DA when it opens. A quality recognizable global brand.
Our greatest challenge in Dominica is Air Access and all Governments we ever had promised the same thing. DFP , UWP and DLP. If Dominicans Local and abroad have to pledge to pay it off we will do all possible for the benefit of the country. We are suffering with no air access and this is hampering growth in all sectors from Cargo planes, passenger planes to business men and women.
South City, with all fairness, the only government which tried and was in the process of constructing an airport of international standards, was the UWP government,we got to be honest. They proved to us that they were in the process of constructing it by accumulating the land.We voted them out and didn’t give them a chance to at the least prove them wrong. If you say to me that you are going to build a house and i see you buy the land, prepare the plan and something happens to you soon after, just before the construction of the house, which prevented you from continuing with the construction, should i not believe that you had intentions of building a house?
The patrons of the Marriott will not be comfortable in Dominica. The infrastructure is just not available to support the lifestyle of the kind of persons who patronize these hotels. Take St. Kitts for instance who has an International Airport and a private airport for the billionaires and millionaires with private jets. What are we going to offer these guests when they arrive? Solitude and a good night’s rest on their vacation?
Dominica looks like Haiti now. I am just so saddened by what Dominica has become. The average Dominican close their eyes and turn their heads. Dominica is now a rubbish dump. A big ghetto
And what are you doing to help
Concerned ,Dominica will get better when wild dogs like you stop barking and looking for someone else to give you all everything on a plate, Get off your dirty back sides and do something to help Dominica, also instead of chasing baby girls get a job rat bags.
Headline should read – Government in negotiations for hospitals and schools restructuring in Dominica.
This GOVT must be paying Marriott to come here…. There is no economic in Dominica to convince Marriott they will receive a return on their investment, all the growth indicators are negative and extremely poor access to the country . This is a prudent organization who have to be accountable to how they spend their shareholders money…..therefore this does not add up.
My suspicion is Marriott must be getting free money from this GOVT before they even reach to Dominica and don’t need to invest a cent in this Dominica chain that must me sweet deal for them.
Or another Hotel in the SKY!!!!
Mister haven’t got shame. Didn’t he pass the incomplete Morrocan Hotel on his way to the Toucarie feast. For this guy to negotiate for the completion of that eye sore and for a New hospital for Marigot he promising hotel. What about the layou hotel you promised St.Joe and Layou people after you claimed to have won the BVI case. Where is the geothermal that you said you would supply Martinique and Guadeloupe with cheap energy. You promise us cheap electricity too, forget, through your ‘like it’ I really like ambassador at the DSC debate, where he claimed that geothermal would be the center and driver of the economy. Where are the two boats promised to the farmers. Promises, promises and more promises and Dominicans believing you eh boy. I am convinced now Dominicans foolish.
What r the plans for the South?..all the develolment seems to be happening in tge Northern side of the Island
Bahahahahahahahahahaha. Stay potto Labour in the South and keep asking what about the south, La ban sort
it is all nice and good to talk about hotels. You do not have an international airport to bring the people in or get them out in a timely manner. currently the is about 1000 hotel rooms and you are struggling to get 50% of them filled, why in the world you are building all these hotels? Are we going to do like North Korea and build 300 rooms hotel and have 3 people going in and out all day so people thinks that it is filled and doing good?
“Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has revealed plans of his government to have a Marriott Hotels & Resorts constructed in the north of the island.”
I know I am going to get all kinds of thumbs down for saying this; but I will anyway!
First of all anybody with commonsense knows that Hotel chains does not invite government to bargain, or negotiate to build Hotels in their country! That is another of Skerrit’s mythical, delusional lies! Anybody can call me what they wish you will never see a entity such as Marriott build a hotel in a place like Dominica, where no International Airport exists!
Unless, that company were scouting for locations, and chose Dominica, mark my words, that did not happen, that is just another lie! It will never happen! Take some time out check, and see on how many Marriott’s are located in the Caribbean, and on the more developed islands with sea and sand and come to your conclusion.
How could champion this thought when you have no way of bringing the guests Let us not continue to embarrass ourselves. Marriott is a good brand but we need. Air access and practicum 101
ehbeh look hotels lol….PM I like u but u really think we can handle all these hotels without an international airport?
WOW! Another hotel? Boy, we have how many hotels now? More jobs for de people, now every one of us could have 1 or more jobs! Look progress papa. Soon people will be able to install those toilets with all that money from the hotel project.
Same sh….t, same fools different day……. They all drunk from fet and i bet it sounds like the first time they hearing about hotels. When they sober they would not remember one word that was said. 12 months later same sh…..t, same fools different place and the utterances sound great. Like manner.
Forget International airport. All dem new hotels in the north, so we will all fly to Gwada & ketch the ferry to the cruise ship dock at portsmouth.
Pie in the sky…rebuild the Health Care instead
PM…I support you and respect what you do…but alas we not hearing nothing about the airport. Furthermore we need the airport to bring in tourists to the Marriott. We cannot continue with that current airport…it is killing us!!!….
https://dominicanewsonline.com/news/homepage/news/business/pm-discusses-investment-with-donald-trump/
LOL
That sounds too good to be true. Marriott? Boy that man can work eh! Now we could give the Florida Diaspora the first meaningful job. Brother, don’t stay blogging of your phone, Skerro gave every child in DA a tablet. Come back home. DA sweet boy. Marriott knows everything they did the survey, so stop airing your dirty laundry
Qui Ca!! You cannot even negotiate for, far less build a Marriott Hospital; is a Marriott Hotel you talking about. Dominicans can’t be fooled, but you can tell that to your second class citizens in St Eustacious, United Arab Emirate, Vanuatu etc and a handful of people in Point Michel.
So agriculture is not even on the back burner again ………..it is completely off the stove man? Hotels hotels hotels that’s next year calypso road march song. Mister man sooner or later you will find out eh…..God is still in control just remember that.
Very Good idea PM.
Let’s give a round of applause to that. The question is why are we putting the cart before the horse.
Are we able to fly in guest , and I mean no more than one stop. Or are we still thinking hopping the islands
Are we able to carry them on big busses. And limos , Or are we thinking of those mini bus.
I would rather be reading , Govt of Dominica signed contract for building an international airport , whether it’s a govt project of a Build ,operate and diliver project.
Or construction of new roads within the island , time to make new roads with new connections. In this day and age mountains are not an obstacle , flatten mountains and the same gravel and sand will be used to build the roads. Etc.
Don’t forget we ship sand to build guada airport. From the layou disaster or blessing which ever way you look at it.
We will take one of the hotels and convert it to a hospital. The Morocan can be the first. Just a pity we cant move it to Marigot
It was supposed to have been in Marigot originally.
we still wining? All that mumbo, jumbo, and we still wining, so why change? only a fool would do that. one thing i know. God forbid, when and if all those hotels are erected, and Erica part Two comes our way , thank God we might have rooms to house ever Dog and cat, cows Goats, and our People, so thats a good thing. Every time I visit those so called Brand name Hotels and question the people who operates them, they tell me its simple. We just pay for the Rights to carry or operate our Hotels under the Brand Name. But we still wining, only in Dominica. We still wining, like a stuck record we still wining????? Tway Boyo! maytay Pie, and we still wining. Why Change anything.?
Sarawak gas hotel talk again
How will people fly in an out of Dominica on time?
They will fly in and out on LIAT of course
Skerrit know just how to keep Dominicans biting his bait..so many announcements of Hotels not one built yet…let’s wait and see but please ppl, don’t hold your breath..
It’s Important for Dominicans to begin to analyse things holistically so many hotels announced and how is our Marketing and Air access to fill them?
Is Mr. Skerrit giving Dominicans his best shot in developing the island, does he really know what he’s doing?
i guess gambling should be legalize and licence granted to strip clubs
I have to see it happen to believe Marriotte hotel is one of the biggers hotel in the U S and it has a great popularity ,The government should try to have direct flights from the U S and from Dominica to the U S , once theres direct flights from the U S to Dominica it will be great,Dominica has alot to attract the American tourists and other tourists from Europe.
Dominica has alot to offer? well i work in the tourism industry and mostly everyone who visited Dominica said they would not return,,,they say the only thing to do is hiking and visiting the falls etc,,,no fine dinning, customer service sucks,,,,place shut down at 6:00 no fun night activities,,,,,,they are bored in the evenings,,,they love to fly to St. Maarten for the fine dinning lovely beaches and so many activities on the small island,,,they claim the locals don’t seem educated at all,,that;s what they said not me….they claim Roseau is an eye sore and the country looks like its still in the eighties…..
this is sooo funny and dumb! why would you seek to bring in a MArriot when we need tremendous infrastructure and superstructure development. Why dont you concentrate on reviving the country from the effects of Erica, developing more viable tourism sites and activities through your discover Dominica Authority and Ministry of Tourism FIRST! Before looking to add more rooms. Speak to many of the existing hoteliers. Rooms and accommodations isnt the problem as many are not even at full capacity. We have rooms and places to stay. WE need product development! we need Infrastructure properly developed. we need SERVICES tha operate around and complimenting the infrastructure. For example, why dont we have a gas station in the pond casse area? after i leave canefield and go into the interior, where again can i get gas? where can i get a safe place to relieve myself after the one or two shops in pond casse closed? roads are not properly paved or lit. when will we get serious about our developmen
In answer to your last question: We will only get serious about our development when we ready to get serious about it….once we get serious about our development, we will know just what to do to get our development going.
In the meantime and between time, I’ll wait.
I know of one incomplete hotel in in Dominica started by Edison James. It is located in the Layou valley and millions in the Escrow Account was finished as soon as it started, then construction fraud killed it dead. If you think I lie ask the UWP government in power between 1995 and sun rising 2000.
TONNEH GARCON MR GOOD!!!
HE HAS CHANGED THE TOPIC FROM CONDEMNED HOSPITAL TO NEW HOTEL COMING TO MARIGOT.
Please keep the hospital in the forefront.
Mr Skerritt you think Marriot coming in your comess. We all know what an high profile n top brand hotel Marriot is,, so you don’t stand a chance.. You started so many hotels not one is yet to be opened..
Sometime one is left to wonder if the PM is okay in his thinking and so forth..
Marriott without a air access.. Those hotels in Dominica are struggling now you talking about Marriott. Poor Skeritt poor Dominicans…
Why all these HOTELS and I lived just there in St. Croix and CANNOT FIND A FLIGHT TO TRAVEL TO DOMINICA. BOTH LIAT AND SEABORNE ARE BOOKED FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH. SHAME ON YOU
SKERRIT. Please what or where are your priorities?
Above comment, the reason you can’t find a flight to Dominica it’s because your pocket is too small dont beat about the bush.
.. Mr just talking bout hotel hotel hotel…. Where the bloddy international airport??? Garson comout there!!!!
What u going and put in the hotel pm rats go and build an international airport and while u doing that u can think of the
Skerrit please.who you fooling,Marriott will never invest in Dominica, look @ the health system, and you cant even repair an airport for the people, man stop fooling the poor people, air travel to Dominica is limited,Must be you going to run this Marriott dude, smh.
I’ll wait.
Skerrit, ‘great things are in store for the country’ once you have left but not a second before. Your track record of the last 15 years speaks for itself, so spare us all your propaganda. Get a new hospital for Marigot build, get a new PMH hospital build and don’t demolish any more bridges that have still some life in them. However, if you insist in building bridges and roads look at the Bailey bridges on the west coast, the bridge on the east coast, the destroyed road near the airport, the road from Portsmouth to the airport etc.
also the bridge connecting Wotten Waven to Trafalgar! is like you forget to finish it. almost a year after Erica.
Thats great that these hotels are being built, i hope they also have plans on how they will bring the tourists here to fill them?
These High Hotels need a air access to fly in their customers and clients…
You the one man government isn’t disclosing measures to improve that aspect..
Why you wait till these events to spew these so called projects..
why not have a press conference, you govern like a joker..just saying things crazy…
you fail to understand the economy is producing anything the citizens are starve for cash no funds circulating in the economy….what are your economic drives..
what has happened to the coffee plant…what about sports in the island..what’s the line up for the WCMF…look at the sad state the health sector is in…
it’s only in a foolish place like dominica u could be riding the backs of the fools who reside and fall for evil practices…
But Skerrit we eating hotels man. smfh
but…but wait…to me that’s like the fifth or sixth hotel I hearing about…
No. More like number twenty and twenty-one.
How many hotels can the north handle without an international airport? Wow everything time I stop to full my gas tank at a gas station is another talk of a hotel–someone must be doing nothing but plan old lying. !!!!!
Sorry Sir the old stinking joke is on you.
hmm
You think so??? I more think de old stinking joke is on US!
It might start but then it will stall. That seems to be the norm with all the phantom hotels. Incompleted projects is all they have to offer
because the funds does “run out” …. but really run in to the wrong pockets. everybody want to get rich through thievery and scams. everybody want their cut. Everybody only looking out for themselves instead of the betterment of the country and their fellow man and family. instead of running the project bankrupt, do it properly and honestly so that you can provide employment. and build the communities. Look at Ross. If not for Ross Portsmouth would be a mess.
