Gov’t to make $400,000 available for Dos D’ane, Paix Bouche

The Prime Minister addressing the Paix Bouche, Dos D’ane Village Council

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has revealed that his government will make available $400,000 that will go towards the development of small businesses in the communities of Paix Bouche and Dos D’ane.

He made that announcement while addressing the 18th Paix Bouche, Dos D’ane Village Council Inauguration on Tuesday.

“The government will make available to the communities of Paix Bouche and Dos D’ane a sum of $400,000 that will go exclusively to small business development in these two areas,” he revealed.

Skerrit also indicated government’s commitment in improving infrastructure in these communities.

“Funds will be approved by the Cabinet in the next two weeks to improve and upgrade every single road in the Portsmouth and Paix Bouche constituency,” he stated. “So every single road has been listed in these two constituencies…”

In addition to that, he said the government has launched a very ambitious programme to eradicate pit latrines in Dominica by the end of 2017.

“We have made the resources available for these two villages to eradicate pit latrine entirely in Dos D’ane and Paix Bouche,” Skerrit noted. “If all goes well, before the end of March, April, May I believe you can achieve universal access to washrooms in this part of Dominica.”

Skerrit continued, “And for those who do not have water the government will connect water for you at no cost to yourself.”

People are asking whether it is CBI money. Whether or not it is what we continue to see is the wanton spending of the country’s money by a callous PM. Year after year the PM convinientLyn dish out money as it suits him and his partisan machinations but overall there are no results to show. If you continue dump money into businesses that don’t creat jobs then it is all a waste

My people the truth is Skerrit and his electioneering tactics have been giving cash to small businesses for q2 years. For example he gave the St Joseph village council two tranches of money for small businesses right before the election for small businesses and what are the results? A certain Doctor from the east was charged with the responsibility and 2million dollars to develop small agro businesses and what happen is that he reported 98% delinquency-DNO this is public documentation or knowledge. What type of bank did the money go into.
Essentially there have been no accountability and Skerrit continue to do this nonsense and all we see is an increase in NEP participants and increase unemployment. Again any fool could see that this is just pure populism -the kind of thing that Chavez did and today Venezuela can\’t wipe their posterior even when they are rich in petro resources. We on the under hand have passports to sell.
This guy has done irreparable damage – just a matter of…

Scare-it reflects the mind of the people of Dominica. One man is not sufficient to sink a country by himself, without the aid and willingness of the majority to take it down. Your bleeding heart won’t help, your blogging won’t help. It takes strength and courage and togetherness, as well as sacrifice to rid and deliver a country from the hands of any dictator.

The people must take to the streets and demand change – This must continue until the desired change is brought about. We fuel the fire and strengthen the hands of the regime; if all we do is show our disapproval in the comfort of our homes. We need to get out there in the rain, snow or shine. “FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD.” We’ve got to do more than just blogging. There is absolutely no damn results in blogging. Else, we would already seen a change for the better. Let’s get out there and demonstrate. Dominica is worth fighting for. If not for us, but for our Children and grand children.

Dominicans remember that the slave masters were able to convince the African slaves that the system of slavery was the means to Christian salvation and heaven. There were some slaves who didn\’t believe while many believed. There were those who actually helped the slave masters Institute and maintain slavery.
Ignorance is bliss and when you keep people poor and dependent you are also securing loyalty. When the slave masters brought in the salted pig snout, pig foot etc the ignorant thought the masters were being generous not know that the snout, tail and foot were rejected body parts. Not only that but thst the salted rejected body parts would cause serious hypertension problem.
It is always the right time to say and do the right thing

      Mr P M
      Remember de People of Soufriere
I know there is no by-election now, but the hot water source at the front of de Soufriere church needs attention , developed as a growing tourist location, this is got so much potential .
I know you and your ministers visit many other countries all over the world ,of course you can see what is done with natural tourist sites .
De place need wash room facilities for the many visitors converging there ; If i can smell de poopoo , de tourist can too , they just call it by a different name , faeces, .Surely some of the land now taken by de Bishop can be de site of a proper washroom , with a villager maintaining it , a maintenance fee could be charged which would be justified. People do pay if presented with something satisfactory , Do something nice , even with an outside standing pipe shower for those wanting a quick rinse .
Man i sure you know what i mean .

        January 18, 2017

they spoiled that facility by allowing a monster building to be erected there, right on the sea edge next to that source. Don’t know who gave permission for that but they need their head examining honestly. some people have no taste and just like to make the place look ugly.

        January 19, 2017

Man i dow care what some of the negative people say,,but if you have a proper modern washroom facility far to the northern side of the church, it cannot be an eye sore , make the front presentable, with some nice flowers or sweet scented flowering trees (yes i am pledging to provide and maintain them, if this project is managed by a local committee , employing two individuals to keep it spot less.I can give ideas on different ways of encouraging subscribers to give generously with a smile, e.g personally spraying their hands with a sweet smelling locally made hand wash, laughingly telling everyone Washy washy etc ; that enhances the recognition of the individual maintaining the facility, as a peoples person, interacting in a friendly and positive way with users .The Zarcasia tree , a local plant, produces a sweet smelling flower which i am sure can be locally developed into that sweet smelling hand wash as well as many other local plants which i will not reveal just yet.

Forward those of you who don\’t have water the government will connect the water for you at no cost\” He forget add that CBI will pay the monthly bill Steven well.
I am not sure why in 2017 and after 17 years of the same administration we are proud that one man government is busy playing Santa Claus and have to connect water for people. This is a sign of the poverty and dependency that this man has create. If the people cannot connect the utility it means that they most likely can\’t pay the monthly bill and it is not that Roosevelt Skerrit don\’t understand this it is just his persistent populism and his relentless intention to keep the people poor and dependent on hand outs.
This is the reason I speak out. I resent this economic slavery that the DLP continue to impose on the people. Believe it or not I am not a political party supporter-is am not UWP nor DFP.

I have never seen anything like this-pure cochoni and the people in Portsmouth swallowing every excuse given. Lang Mama alone heard 5 excuses and they were all lies. Just imagine the other lies received by other inquiring minds. It also depends on the state of mind of the Parl Rep.

This is most definitely how not to run a country!! What sort of small businesses in these small communities supposed to look like. Will everybody be snacketters, seamstresses, what? Exactly? Furthermore, I think that since we are becoming socialism on steroids, we should all be allowed to stay home and relax, have all our needs met by the government.
Who wants to live in such a way!
I would like to know out of curiosity, with so much money going around, how much are you offering to public servants??
Charm and charisma can only last for so long!! Get off your charmful butt and find ways to stimulate the economy so people can WORK to earn their keep! Come on, this isn’t right to a people of a country! This is reducing more than half the citizenry to mendicancy! This madness has got to stop!! Winning elections cannot be worth the cost of a people’s dignity!!

  20. One plus one = 2
    January 17, 2017

Fellow Dominicans, please be advised that before this announcement of money for small business was made, politicians (government ministers to be exact) are already on the road telli g their supporters to apply for the $15k, even if they have no business or don’t plan to have any business. They will help friends and supporters of the DLP put a business plan together just for the record, and since it has to go to corrupt politicians for final approval, as long as they are red, they MUST get it! Now if u are a worker, with a true business, you could apply but know it will not be approved. Who is the Trade boy again? Where is he from again? Is he the son of a former minister of agriculture? Who is the minister responsible for small business again? Is she from Paix Bouche. One plus one =2.

Skerrit giving free toilet, free water connection, I guess free toilet paper and free monthly water service. On top of that he and Roselyn Paul going to give laborites FREE disguised money, in the name of “Small business”grant, what he’ll sense it makes to work again? I mean why should so much money be in the hands of politicians? Politicians identify those in need of toilet, those that CANNOT pay and those that getting $15,000 for small business, and those same corrupt politicians dishingout the money? This one is unheard-of

Skerrit continued, “And for those who do not have water the government will connect water for you at no cost to yourself.”

Skerrit did not even say government would assist those that CANNOT afford water, but rather those that “do not have water”. So those of you from Dosdane and Paix Bouche that were about to build a new house with toilet or, connect water on an existing property, you better STOP because the government is going to give that to you FREE, at no present or future cost to you; even your monthly water bill will be paid by the government of Dominica! So folks, no need to look for job, no Need to plan for the fire and the little dollar u had in the bank u could that damn thing out and use the money to sewo, drink it rum those that drinking, smoke it weed those that smoking because you have a government that will give you flushing toilets, free water connection, at no cost to you, even cost for monthly mentainance is covered! This is what you call mission accomplished,

Folks, this is the Hon. Prime Minister talking this crap, after 13 years in office as PM. Oh how this hurts! After 18 years of Labar and 13 years as PM, Skerrit is going to Paix Bouche, a Labar stronghold and acknowledge that he and his party have so impoverished the people of Dominica to the point that they CANNOT pay for water connection?
Skerrit continued, “And for those who do not have water the government will connect water for you at no cost to yoursell”.
OK Skerrit, I have flushing toilet I put in the days of Mamo and never missed a payment during 5 years of uwp, when the country was swinging and money was meeting money. However since u became PM and ran a “successful get Dominica poor at all cost campaign”, I was forced to let DOWASCO disconnect my water. Am I also qualified for the free connect campaign? Also, can u guarantee u will pay all future bills till death? The way u talking sure not giving any hope for the future and that hurts really bad

    January 17, 2017

It is not only Portsmouth & Paix Bouche roads that require attention.

Have the PM and his Minister of Com. & Works driven through Eggleston, Giraudel & Castle Comfort lately to see the deplorable condition of those roads from the constant rain that has fallen over the past three months?

The main roads are terrible but the secondary roads inside those villages are much worse. Shocks, front end, brakes, tires, bushings and engine mounts are being changed regularly.

The ‘patching’ of holes with concrete in those areas does not help at all as concrete and asphalt don’t mesh. As soon as a heavy vehicle traverses the road the concrete ‘patch’ dislodges from the asphalt. The hole gets deeper and larger making the loose concrete a hazzard to any vehicle passing over it, more so in the dark of night.

Drains are badly needed on those roads as they become a bed of water when rain falls. Please look into the matter urgently and help us.

    • Roger Burnett
      January 18, 2017

You’re quite right: “concrete and asphalt don’t mesh”.

Even worse is placing concrete over a fault line, as is the case at Antrim.
