Hilton Worldwide today (Monday) announced that the Tranquility Beach Resort Dominica in Salisbury will join Curio – A Collection by Hilton, a global set of remarkable hotels hand-picked for their distinctive character and personality, appealing to passionate travelers seeking local discovery.

The Tranquility Beach Resort Dominica, Curio Collection by Hilton, is expected to open in 2018.

The property will encompass a gated community of 60 one- or two-bedroom villa suites built in 15 new buildings along the Dominica coastline, accessible by a private beach path and surrounded by the luscious greenery of the country’s indigenous forest. It will include a pool, two 1,200 square-foot meeting and event spaces, a wellness center and gym.

“We want to create a hotel destination that highlights Dominica’s breathtaking scenery and dedication to preserving the immensely rich landscape,” said Ian Edwards, Sunstone Inc., a Corporation of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The Tranquility Beach Resort Dominica will be perched along the shores of Salisbury on the west coast of the island, which is known for its natural surroundings, creole cuisine and dive sites of coral reefs and crystal-clear waters.

“The new-build will echo the region’s natural setting and provide guests with unmatched views of the Caribbean Sea,” said Neil Freeman, partner, Sunstone Inc.

Dubbed “The Nature Island of the Caribbean”, Dominica is a rugged landscape of blue-green slopes, waterfalls, and volcanic mountain peaks covered in tropical rain forests rising almost 5,000 ft. The island is home to one of the largest boiling lakes in the world at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Morne Trois Pitons National Park, just a short drive from Salisbury.

“When considering properties for the Curio brand, we consider the interesting places travelers want to visit and how they want to experience them,” said Dianna Vaughan, global head, Curio – A Collection by Hilton. “In that regard, the Tranquility Beach Resort Dominica will be a perfect marriage of a remarkable location with a connection to the identity, people, culture and energy of the area.”

As members of the Hilton Worldwide portfolio, all Curio hotels, including The Tranquility Beach Resort Dominica, participate in Hilton HHonors®, the only hotel loyalty program that allows members to earn both Points and Miles on the same stay and no blackout dates on reward stays. In addition, HHonors members can use Points to purchase unique experience rewards, premium merchandise, make charitable contributions and more.

Curio – A Collection by Hilton™ (curio.com) is a global set of remarkable upscale and luxury hotels hand-picked for their unique character and personality; each one a part of the city they call home. Curio guests are passionate, independent-minded travelers seeking local and authentic experiences who value the added peace-of-mind that comes with the Hilton name and award-winning Hilton HHonors program.

I have taken the opportunity to read all of the comments made on this article with respect to the hotel construction and Dominica’s passport as the primary revenue generating factor to fund what I may describe as another Jungle Bay. The fact that I know one of the developers and more importantly, I know what he stands for, then I would really like to see positivism come out of this. I know that many of the negative comments made are reasoned to the fact that many projects of similar nature have been highlighted from the same source of funding and the “no result factor” continues to be the major success of such projects. I do not blame my people for their over emphasized disgust for what is known them to be undoubtedly gimmickry. However, since we all would like to see some meaningful development reach the shores of Dominica to cushion some of the unemployment issues faced by our young generation, then I have to appeal to all that LET’s GIVE IT A CHANCE AGAIN. This time we may be…

Have you heard? Dominica is the ideal place to send all the refugees. Only 700000 people on island, unspoilt and untouched. Look out people, they will be coming down as investors. Hope you guys are ready. Isis will be in the mix, and if you think things bad now? It will be worst. Keep burying your heads in the sand, and let people pull the rug from under you. Lord have mercy on my island Dominica

Damn ignorant? “Parent” – clearly you were born yesterday so this must be the first major project/promise you have heard of. No wonder you have no skepticism about it.

But guess what? Those of us that were born a couple weeks ago, we are still waiting on the new PMH which was to break ground in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and July 2015. Still waiting to book a room at the Morrocan hotel. Still waiting and wondering how $150 million dollars could go down the Layou River! Were you around for any of those projects? Maybe you were the sole attendee at the PMH groundbreaking ceremony last July.

As someone rightly said we have countless groundbreaking but hardly a grand opening!

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, won’t fool me again! Clearly this is your first fooling. Stick around Dominica and you’ll be singing OUR song in a short while!

DNO dont you think that it is essential that the readers are also aware of the passport selling relationship. The joint is just another passport mele pushed upfront to keep the people calm. How much of a coincidence that there was the kempski proplr breaking ground and promising hotel in 2018 and here it is the CURIO group provifong the same opening schedule.
Begore election the government promised us Hotel at Public Works and International airport. We also sawphase I of the Roseau River promenade and Erika eat phase 2. As gor ground breakings -Erika cover the “breakings ” in all ground.

    There are three things that particularly bother me regarding the Citizenship by Investment programme;

    – Citizenship applications can not be made directly to Government but must be processed thru. approved agents. This leaves the door open to proceeds being banked off shore and tax avoidance on agents’ earnings, not to mention possible corruption and/or favouritism in the granting of licences.
    – Persons acquiring Dominican citizenship this way do not actually own a share in the property. but, as in the case of the Cabrits Kempinski, a share in a “partnership – not a certificate of title.
    – Dominicans who have acquire their citizenship by birth, through their parents or by naturalisation are barred from investing in these developments.

The property will be accessed by PRIVATE BEACH????????? Aren’t all beaches supposed to be public?
If these people claim to be in hotel construction business for so long, why can’t they come up with the money to build the hotel instead of selling our passports to build hotel? Why give them part of our national park to build hotel? Why can’t Mr. Skerrit give our hoteliers the go-ahead to sell our passports
so that their business can thrive?

Dominicans, wake up! Stop that madness going on in our country. When our grandchildren begin to ask questions, I hope we will not hang our heads in shame.

That’s another Layou River Hotel fiasco. By the way, whoever has collected the millions from whomever, give it back to Dominicans so that they can pay for Honourable Linton’s legal fees in that case against Mr. Pinard-Byrne. Hon. Linton stood up for Dominicans and continues to do so.

As far as I know this property has no beach and is built on a cliff. There is a beach at the adjoining property, land access of which is only over private land and would be trespass ing without the owner’s permission. There are no private beaches in Dominica but access to them is another matter.

All I’m prepared to say is that these proposed new hotel projects appear to be millions times more inspiring than our nation building following Erica.
Also, we Dominicans should expect that by the time these hotels get done by 2018 that our reconstruction efforts will be far ahead. Roads, bridges, airport etc.
It would be a shame to see construction of hotels as de response to nation building following 1.3billions rebuilding costs.
I don’t believe any of this will materialize by 2018. This is de best PM skerrit can come up with

When the government announced the building of the Morocco-funded guest house( I not call that crap a hotel) in Portsmouth, and people had doubts, so many people jump up and talk about being positive and how Dominicans don’t like development and so on and so forth.

Where is the positive that came out of it. The guest house is falling apart in Portsmouth although we were told all the monies were available since it was gift from the government of Morocco.

Now another hotel built on this citizenship by investment program is announced another bunch of people repeating the same mantra, let’s be positive and so on.

I am not holding my breath on this.

Read about the Morocco guest house in link below and see some of the comments. We are constantly fooled and many people actually love being fooled.

I know the exact site, there is a little beach that they have to walk down to, when there is sand that is. It comes and goes. The site itself is very hot and dry. I like the list of failed projects someone put up in another comment. All true.

Is this under the investment by citizen program ( passport sales) or an investor using his/her money to build this resort?

Dominicans should go to street and demonstrate if passport sales money will be used to build this resort. They must ask the GOVT to use the money instead to implement a more functional hospital ASAP.

Range Development Resort is enough at this time, our healthcare system needs immediate attention as the National keeps dying.

This is a project approved under the Citizenship by Investment scheme. Mr. Edwards is a Dominican citizen (with Roseau roots I believe) , a property developer living in Anguila and Tranquility beach was designed by him.
I like this development, as as opposed to the Kempinski Cabrits, a non-descript resort without real character This is much more sympathetic, in keeping with its surroundings, not overpowering them. and represents much better what Dominica is all about.

    Great.

Now let’s start fixing Dominica for these types of guests.

The bridge over the Melville Hall River, the first bridge you see after leaving the airport is an eye sore and painful to see. That bridge has been like this for years, something you might see on a run down plantation somewhere (maybe Dominica is run down plantation).

The recent ground breaking for the Kempinski Cabrits Resort at Douglas Bay/ Cabrits and the news of Hilton Worldwide “Curio” Tranquility Beach Resort development for Salisbury is good news for Dominica’s tourism.

The fact that these international hotel brands are seeing the potential of Dominica as a holiday destination and are willing to invest in Dominica’s fledgling tourism sector will generate renewed and increased interest in Dominica by international travellers and by other international brands as well.

Dominicans across the political divide must welcome these proposed developments capable of bolstering Dominica’s image as a emerging destination for discerning and upscale travellers and economically those employed, their families and the economy in general.

News of such projects does bring renewed hope to all those genuinely interested in the advancement of our country.

So Dominicans have the shortest memory in the world, is that what you are saying? Of course we all want these projects…we wanted them when we heard of the Morroco hotel, the one by public works, Layou River, etc.

John, the problem with people like that bit of trash who thought they were insulting me, is that they have no clue, that a tourist is simply another human. Now I expect if locals are occupying the beaches with visiting tourist, the locals should be disciplined and conduct themselves in a appropriate manner!

Should not be eager to try to mingle to close to some unless there are reasons to mingle with someone! I have been all over the world where tourist visits, I have never read a sign which reads tourist only.

To talk about private beach in Dominica, would be discrimination in it heights form against the local Dominican! And any government who would agree to that and tolerate should be overthrown by the people, such ideas are sixteenth century, and should not be tolerated in the twenty-first century.

Hawaii and Miami has some of the best beaches in the world, they are occupied by whoever wants to enjoy them!

Great news and I am super elated about all these new HOUSING projects I am reading about. But how about the ENTERTAINMENT aspect? What is gonna entice people to come to STAY in Dominica for weeks or months in order to maintain these hotel industries. For these projects to be fruitful we need to attack it from both angles. Beautiful resorts YES, but also sources of entertaintment, shpping etc. which would entice people to actually want to come to DA and spend their money..

Those people who commented on giving away or creating a \’private beach do not know the general area on the grand savannah in Salisbury.

The entire area is private property and the beach front can only be accessible by boat to the public. Once the property is gated the public wont have land access to the shoreline since there in no public road or footpath to the sea. There is a twenty foot drop from the mountain to the shoreline on most of the property.

Work had already commenced on the infrastructure with wide concrete road and a private jetty way down on the shoreline. The private property is already gated and the general public do not have access or never had access.

To have access to the shoreline which is of stone (not a sand beach one has to be created ) the public will have to come by boat. The area is similar to secret beach beach/bay

    • the bushmaninda
      October 26, 2015

These things have legs. The issue is privatization of public lands. If a property is so naturally situated that only the land owner can get to the Beach then so be it. But the beach may not be private. If I chose to use that beach as a stop-off on my boat trip north what happens then. The is no need to privatize a beach for a a Hotel to operate and use the beach.

You people think so damn backwards, do you even understand the type of people that place would attract? We cry for progress when it comes we want to chant it down, it’s not like they’re going to run you if you go there you would just have to know when you go there you don’t disrespect your self their brand and your country by extent. This great news for us, people stop letting people think we are not a civilized country with these petty venting.

      October 26, 2015

What’s a little private beach? If I can’t role up to the sea and enjoy the beach within the confines of law and common decency, then the idea of privatizing beaches is abhorrent. The beach is a public space and should not be denied to the people. When a beach is privatized what happen to our ability to enjoy that beach. I don’t want to give up my beach. What is the addition benefit to the Nation for giving up the beach. Is signing over the beach a requirement for the deal to go down. What is the deal and why must the beach be private.
If a private enterprise can utilize the public space (the beach) to enhance its offerings then by all means it should. But why should its use of it deny me my private noncommercial use of the public good.
We need progress, we really do, but cannot devalue our natural advantage because we are desperate for progress. We must be mindful of pass mistakes as we take new decisions. Giving away the goose that lays the golden egg isn’t wise, lets be more…

“The property will encompass a gated community of 60 one- or two-bedroom villa suites built in 15 new buildings along the Dominica coastline, accessible by a private beach path”

This sentence is saying the resort will be accessed by a private beach PATH. Not that the beach is private.. it’s not even referring to the beach its self. Does DNO mean that there is access, from the resort, to the beach via a private path? or to enter the resort you have to go on a private beach path.

Dolphin Resort – incomplete for over 16 yrs
    Lauro Club – closed down
    Nyah Valley – construction stopped
    Stone Edge – scaled down
    Sunset Bay – struggling
    West Central – Closed down
Antilles West Coast – Political demise
Tranquility Beach Resort – I wish you all the best
I wonder how many people from Salisbury know about this development and the developers

When is the next Election season? Your guess is as good as mine, Look what is really happening to our Coast lines, more often than not our shore lines are being washed away, any fesibility studies done on those proposed hudge undertakings? just asking, look like everything being mentioned is carded to complete around our next General Elections. I`m I assumeing too much into this? or that`s a mere Co- incidence. Time will tell! we go see. God bless Dominica#!

How about that Boutique hotel planned for Scott’s head by that Belgian scam artist or the redevelopment of Castaways, the Four seasons golf resort on the Douglas estate on the east coast, that big dive resort at Ti Bay, next to Secret Bay? Or that development by that American insurance fellow, above Souffriere, the Geest 4-star resort at Woodford and the marina project at the Cabrits? All pipe dreams. All that under the labour govt but is crapaud that smoked their pipe.
I wish our island luck because we badly need it, not scam artists and dream merchants.

      Doh make me laugh oui!

      Hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

The artists drawings always look good, however it either never get started, or if it gets started, it never gets completed!

If it is from the Hilton chain of hotels, they have the money to build such, however, the problem will be Dominica, and by the way the heir to the Hilton fortune is a young woman who live here in the Los Angeles area who constantly get herself into all sorts of trouble, you know like shop lifting!

Francisco, it is not Hilton that will build or own it. They will manage it, under a contract. Few of the big well know hotel chains own the hotels that bear their names but manage them on someone else’s behalf. The same applies to the Cabrits Kempinski. The latter is not the owner of the hotel.

Welcome to the new resort which wil bring more employment to the residents of Dominuic; but I do not like the idea of “private breach” this spells control of areas on the island. So No to private beach and YES to the new resort.

Concerned citizen, I agree with you regarding private beaches. I lived in Antigua back in the early 60’s and I was close the issues and debates around private beaches. At that time Antigua’s hotel development was just getting on the way and many developers sought to have beaches privatized. It was the will of the people exercised when the idea of private beaches was caste aside. Private beaches on small islands take away more then they can bring and robs the local man of his intimacy with the place his birth. Private beaches on Dominica or for that matter, any small Island is not a good idea and I could not support it.
The beaches like the air, water and parks, belong to the people. It is they who must protect it. If Dominicans do not understand the importance of having access to beaches, they will allow the Government to sell of the beaches for short term gains and at the end of the day the beaches will be owned and enjoyed by wealthy foreigners only

“15 new buildings along the Dominica coastline, accessible by a private beach path and surrounded by the luscious greenery of the country’s indigenous forest. ”

This spells trouble ” accessible by a private beach path. ” You see that same crap was tried in Antigua sometime in the 1960’s. When one talk about private beach, that is an indication it is not going to be accessible to the local Dominica born! When that crap was tried in Antigua, the people protested, as a result to this day Antiguan’s have access to all of their beaches!

That that sort of thing exists nowhere on earth! The beaches are for the enjoyment of all Dominicans too. This should be made abundantly clear to anyone who whiches to enjoy the beaches in our country. that our peoples’ right will not be taken way. Stop it before it get started; hope it is not another wild crapo lie!

Study your comment and you’ll see how wrong it is. So Antigua that have 365 beaches have them public and Dominica that hardly have any having them private? Best we just sell the island for the refugees. When the last time you use the entire island?

    • October 26, 2015

Negative people. Everywhere in the world have hotels with private beaches. Do we want development or do we want to be known as the island that chanted down every development idea. If you want to access the beach then simply check inn as a guest. How many of you with all these NEGATIVE comments go to that particular beach right now. My people let’s develop the island and stop being so negative.

        Name one such place!

You cannot use the private property of a person to gain access a beach, however, there is no place on earth where beaches are exclusively owned by a company, or chain of hotels.

In every country, there is something know in the law as “easement;” that simple means people must have access to where they wish to go. That is why, in Dominica right now you cannot sell land to anybody without easement!

Now in the Soviet Union during the days of communism, they had certain beach which was exclusive to the hierarchies of the Soviet Union, but since the demise of communism everybody in the Russia, have access to wherever they wish to go.

And if you ask me how I know I have relatives residing in Russia, as a matter of fact my youngest daughter is married to a Russian.

You all are so backward that you allow anybody to come to into the country, and dominate you body mind and soul

Have you ever heard of Labadie, Haiti?

      • Francisco Telemaque
        October 26, 2015

Well, Warrington, if more than a million people allowed themselves to be ruled by a father and son dictatorship for almost a hundred years or more, what do you expect!

If a dictator of Haiti stock a roast chicken head on a stake and planted it at the entrance to a beach, the local superstitious people would not have to read the word no enter, the roasted chicken head would keep them away!

We are however talking about “Dominica, such as in The Commonwealth Of Dominica, where our people should not be subjected to that sort of thought, never mind in reality! That alone should be grounds for civil disturbance in the country!
