Improved water supply for Roseau

The tank under construction late last year

A $4 million project geared at improving the water supply system in Roseau and its environs is nearing completion.

Public Relations Officer of water company – DOWASCO – Edward Registe says the construction phase of the 500,000 gallon water storage tank at More Bruce will be fully operational by the end of this month.

According to Registe, the facility will go a long way in solving several water problems being faced in the City.

“It will provide water to the Windsor Park Stadium, the people of Roseau and the cruise ships. The project lasted for about a year and on completion, a process of testing will be undertaken,” the company spokesman said.

Registe also explained that the process includes activities to flush and disinfect the pipeline.

“The concrete works have been completed and what is ongoing now is landscaping and some other pipe works,” he explained.

Positive step. Though long overdue, one has to applaud the government, contractors and workers.

Excellent. Soon as we’re done here, we’re gonna help the PM. He needs an improved water system at his home, according to him.

The sad fact is that we are not internationally, or even regionally competitive with our bottled water. The Chinese funded Nature’s Water venture did not last. A planned relaunch after the company’s admin. was taken over in 2009 did not materialize and their bottling line was put up for sale. Our production- & raw material costs are too high, mainly driven by expensive energy (read: electricity prices).
