Marigot Fire Station receives $1.4-million truck

The new truck is a multi-purpose one

The Government of Dominica has spent $1.4-million to procure a brand-new fire truck for the Marigot Fire Station located near the Douglas Charles Airport.

A handing over ceremony was held recently to officially hand over the keys of the truck to the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Service.

Minister for National Security, the Hon Rayburn Blackmoore says the Dominica Labour Party Administration is committed to ensuring that the airport is compliant with civil aviation standards.

“This multi-purpose truck will serve as a backup and to also ensure that this airport remains open and compliant. I have been advised that it comes with multiple extinguishing agents, namely water, powder and foam and it can be used also for airport rescue and domestic firefighting,” he said.

The Hon Justice Minister says government sees the need to equip this department with the necessary tools needed to carry out its functions. It is against this backdrop that government, in this financial year, will also be making the funds available to purchase a new fire truck for the Grand Bay fire station, he informed.

“The appliance that you have in Grand Bay is not consistent with current time. When we talk about the community has expanded, they have greater needs, greater demands. Based on my discussion with the fire chief and his deputy…I have been advised that we are looking at Grand Bay,” he stated.

Hon Blackmoore encouraged the fire officers to work diligently now that they are better equipped.

Just don’t send it to Grand bay bcause No maintainance will be timely. After using it to go to the shop up and down all day, If FIRE break-out they will claim their air has No tire …lol, their whoose burst, engine doe working. They are known for standing right there and watch houses BURN to the ground in GRAND BAY. 2 weeks ago they were even standing and watch a house NEXT DOOR to them burn, so close that theiy even WALKED to the location and just stand there helplessly because truck not working. Same happened 20 years ago making a prophet out of the artist ‘Brisbane’ who sang… ‘Yo kiye kor yo fireman, yo di whoose yo paytay, yo di tire yo pa ni vahn’ …same situation today, Nothing changed. Shame! If I was a fireman there I would resign immediately.

That fire appliance is very important…without proper fire coverage passenger aircraft will not land, however the fire station is located at the airport, so don’t give the impression that it is Marigot, I have read the sign on the previous building (not sure if the new one has it) MELVILLE HALL FIRE STATION. Of course the station serves Marigot and the neighbouring communities. Now we need the hospital in the area. The airport would not function if the hospital services were mandatory as those of the fire.

Much thanks to that, the hospital is null , the people don’t really have houses to burn . The planes seldom crashes here. With a start after 40 years i give thanks . The others will be in a timly fashion ober the next 40 to 50 years

I am asking myself who is Skerritt’s advisor or advisors. How can you spend such a large sum of money on a fire truck when there is no proper bridge to support that truck on its journey.Every steel bridge in Dominica is called a temporary bridge and it last as long as the time of another hurricane. The hospitals are the priority of the country, clinics, dental surgery, school, farming in order to be self-sufficient and price control. You all are begging for help to build back Dominica, remember that Dominicans abroad must help themselves and their families first.Your harbor customs workers are creating too much trouble and their lack of good work efficiency is another huge problem and setback. Skerrit you and you Alibaba associates are destroying Dominica.

“How can you spend such a large sum of money on a fire truck when there is no proper bridge to support that truck on its journey. ”

That is a very stupid question!

First of all Fire Trucks are not manufactured in Dominica, therefore Roosevelt; you or anybody in  Dominica has no choice in purchasing equipment like that: you either buy it or do without it! If the Truck is already in Dominica that alone should remind you that your question is a very foolish one.

The fact the truck was not manufactured at the airport means it was imported into the country, which means it landed either in Portsmouth, or the port in Roseau; and so if it was driven from Roseau, or  Portsmouth; to Melville Hall and it was going to damage, and cause bridges to collapses that would have happened the it was taken to Melville Hall Airport!

Criticism is health most of the time, but your argument here is stupid, because there are already heavy trucks on the island!

Let me clarify, and make that clear to you; there are much heavier trucks on the Road in Dominica, and if they have not collapse the bridges yet, that fire truck will not smash them. You are simply playing politics, but that is bias nonsensical politics.

If that truck was not bought, and there is an unfortunate plane crash: Plane on fire and no fire truck to put the fire out, you and I, and  all who want Skerrit to fall will be on his case, blaming him for not equipping the Airport properly. You need to know when to burst Roosevelt head, and when to look beyond the criticism!

I don’t support what you are saying because there to be safety at the airport for the landing of and take off of the aircraft.
If there was none at all you would be saying something else. So heads up the them even though waste a lot of monies

Now if a fire happened in Marigot and the fire station could not out it because they didn’t have a truck, or their truck was old and they had a hard time outing a fire and someone died all hell will break lose from pissed of people. Or let’s say a fire happened in two different parts of Marigot but they only attend to one fire truck at a time what’s going to happen? You have no idea how important that truck is. Especially with an airport right there
