Member of Parliament for the Soufriere Constituency Denise Charles has announced that by the end of the year 2017, there will be no more dirt roads in the constituency.
The affirmation was made at a town hall meeting on Wednesday in Pointe Michele.
She informed those in attendance that three roads have been completed so far in Pointe Michel: Lover’s Lane, Simon Francis Road, and one road in Chimen Nef.
Funds of $200,000 have also been allocated towards the reconstruction of two more roads, she stated.
“I am pleased to announce that the Prime Minister has allocated another $200,000 which will go towards the reconstruction of Royalty Road and the School Church Road,” she said.
Meanwhile, Charles highlighted the improvement of living conditions in Pointe Michele where over the last nine months, approximately $2-million were received for housing assistance.
According to her, these funds have assisted 221 families where priority was given to persons with roof leaks, single parents, and senior citizens that needed to build or improve their homes. She reassured those who haven’t received assistance as yet to have patience.
“I know that some of you may have requested assistance but haven’t received it but please be patient, your time is coming,’ she said.
However, she stressed that to those who have received housing assistance, to use it as it was intended.
“Now I just want to emphasize to all recipients of housing assistance, that the funds must be used to improve your homes,” Charles remarked.
Parl REP.
I am sorry for you, I heard a rumor about a candidate that will be challenging the DLP and UWP in the next election, if this is true Red and Blue is in TROUBLE.
She is clue less ,the road next to the pte Michel community center has pot holes like Swiss cheese , she drive by there every day in here brand new S.U.V with dark tinted windows that’s why she don’t see it , only people who identified with the color red get help in pte Michel , if you want to buy a lot to build in pte Michel when you go to housing they have there cronies who either work there , or they will call people on skerros pay role and ask them if you are a laborites, if you are not you will not get building lot period.
Pants on fire….keep waiting on the roads to be nicely done.
During the Elrose Estate period, Soufriere had only dirt roads but almost every adult in the village had a job. There were many gardens and fishermen. There was a little market next to the sea opposite the cross road. Many people walked from Scottshead to Grand bay to sell fish; now there is only sea and sun.
Probably Denise should have been Portsmouth Parl Rep; maybe the hospital road would have been fixed by now.
Im thinkinng , of Denise didnt win that seat, do you think Soufriere would have gotten anything ?
hmm
Fix the dirt roads tan and dont forget the pit toilets. Is dat dat looking like us.
Denise this was promised to the people during your quest to be elected. It’s now what….months and you talking about dirt roads.. Pur leeese denise get something meaningful
to do. Instead of Quoating bible verses….
You pushing tired bust??
We thank, the Government, for the people,by the people, for their asistance. See in our country, action speaks louder than works, is not what we say, but how we say what we say. We love our Government.
Brp, you are speaking for yourself , not me, remember that so stop saying we.
True people need jobs but if the roads are not fixed it’s a problem. SMH….you just don’t know how to please the citizens. At least she is making an effort in her constituency so be thankful!!!!!
The people want to be empowered by means of a job. It was your own colleague who stated that “people cannot eat road”.
You should be thankful to honourable Lennox Linton and the Panama Papers…Prior to that we Dominicans never knew that CBI was generatng revenue..
or how much. All of a sudden all project is CBI. Before it was VAT that was the main revenue generator and other taxes. We cry about VAT for years and that was their story. If not for VAT we cannot fix this or do that or whatever. Now if not for CBI… CBI is our saving grace. Dont let them fool you. or stop letting them fool you.
who woman doing allot to make the public think she is making a change. Corruption at its finest.
one of the supremo’s. singing for her supper.
she have to say what she is saying for she know why. I listened to Charles last evening reading the script given to her for which she did a poor job. I remembered her mother whom I worked with at the PMS saying so much good about UWP, even going as far as saying how much she hatex Miss Charles Freedom Party, because Miss Charles was the cause of her husband fleeing Dominica and more. She said that she hated Labour Party. When Skerrit entered the politic, she told some of us that she like how UWP is working and providing jobs for people, but since Skerrit is her daughter’s boyfriend and he send her to study she cannot support UWP anymore.
So why should she bite the hand that send her daughter to study? That would be ungrateful. Come out there.
UWP under James and Denise Labassier did a lot for them, because of UWP she got the job working at PMH, she also bit the hand which fed she and her children too, go figure it out, by the way, was it the payment Skerrit received from the Chinese for betraying thecLanour Party when he went to Barbados unknowing to Pierro, this traitor skerrit day will come so day soon Kermit the Frog, the money well will soon dry
“Now I just want to emphasize to all recipients of housing assistance, that the funds must be used to improve your homes,” Charles remarked.
That is not how it should be done. Let them make the repairs present the receipts to prove the work was done. Get inspectors to verify the work was done properly and once these conditions are satisfied, only then do you give them the money. It’s about time we behave in a professional manner.
It is little wonder Val is now crying about band leaders who took their money and did not participate in carnival.
Nonsense. If i have no money, no capital or collateral to approach a bank for a loan, how am i making repairs, or repairs that meet certain standards (usually standards means more detail and more money). Many times this is the case with foreign donors., but locals cannot access the funds which is given as refunds, because they cannot make the initial investments.
Or what they could do is have the government hire teams to do the works. The workers could be from the community self. That way you ensure jobs are generated and homes are improved in a secure manner. I agree just handing people the money is not the way to do it. Smh.
Totally agree with you, I was trying to think of a way not to hand folks cash for home improvement of home renovations.
Otherwise you just have the same situation as before because the person did not use the cash as intended
What about a voucher system? Where by the person will be given a voucher instead of cash. Let me explain
First the government create an account with building materials companies on the island, after identifying the individual neends they will then be given a voucher with X amount for purchases.
The company will then bill the government directly, which will also Serves as a base to track paper trail and transparency and can be used island wide and no cash change hands.
Very simple to implement
Nice improvements.
No dirt roads Denise, but the real dirt remains, most of it under the carpet.
Denise, regardless of what roads you may resurfaced, what the people need is a job.
Can they eat the road? They need financial freedom. They want to buy their own pound of sugar, their own ounce of cheese etc.
Good going Denise, I know you care for your people. Continue helping in the development of LaPwet and the entire Soufriere community. We appreciate your efforts.
nonsense.
LMAO! CBI to the rescue
oh really, what about the big crater coming up the big pointe michel hill? and I hope you all pave the dirt road going all the way up to Ian house hmmm
One thing you can never please everybody eh..
MASSSSSSSSSSS..Get out there
She don’t have to please everybody, is Skerrit she have to please.
