Parish councils get helping hand

Presentation of one of the cutters

Five communities in Dominica are now better prepared to participate in beautification exercises on Community Day of Service to be held on Monday November 5th.

That’s because on Thursday five parish councils from around the island received free brush cutters compliments of the Dominica Association of St Thomas.

President of the association, Vincent St Luce urged the recipients to take care of the equipment since the group made huge efforts at fundraising to purchase them.

He warned the village councils that the cutters should be used only for community projects.

“I want to remind you that the cutters are for community use and not individual use. They belong to the community and so they must be taken care of,” he pointed out.

The five recipients of the brush cutters are the Petite Soufriere/San Sauveur Village Council, St. Joseph Village Council, The Paix Bouche/Dos D’ane Village Council, Vieille Case Village Council and the Tete Morne Village Council.

Liaison officer of Diaspora affairs, Loreen Bannis Roberts applauded the efforts of the association.

She also cautioned the recipients to ensure that cutters are properly maintained.

“You will now find the task of keeping your community clean much easier with the donation of these trimmers. Please ensure that they are properly serviced and well maintained,” she said.

In the past the group has made contributions to the Yes We Care Program, Grotto Home for the Homeless and the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Those little things cannot withstand the grass on the road-side, that’s more for small yards. Wait to hear more about what salisbury did not get my brother. These people are bent on keeping salisbury out of everything and if that tooloom that want to represent salisbury not seeing he is just a useless to his colleages let him continue running about putting salisbury people against each other at the end of the Labour Party era he will be like a dog on the streets of salisbury because nobody will bother with him

Looks like the Ryobi 30SESA, a 2-stroke, 30cc brushcutter. Excellent little machine for domestic garden use but I doubt it would withstand rugged roadside cleaning for instance. Available in the U.K. for £140 (approx. E.c.$.616) incl. 20% vat but I suspect they would have been obtained cheaper in the U.S.V.I. duty/tax free. Let’s see how they stand up and have a report on thier performance & condition in a year’s time. Don’t know but I smell electioneering in the air!

They have any dealer here with spare parts and able to serve these machines? I know from experience, don’t buy anything that can not be serviced here.

Why is it that Marigot and Salisbury are never involved in the labor party government activities.Mrs Bannis, the laison officer of diaspora affairs based in the Virgin islands and one time labor party government minister, is paid by the tax payers of Marigot and Salisbury too.

But wait a minute, didn’t Ms. Bannis Roberts win her seat on a UWP ticket before she switched her allegiance to the Labour party? And you all want her to give a little brush cutter to the constituencies, held by the party she divorced? She is not a Dominican then? After all, you don’t give to those that don’t share your outlook, even if it is family.
