The Academy being officially opened

The ‘dojo’ of Purple Dragon Martial Arts Academy Dominica Branch was officially opened on Thursday evening at their new location on 4 Federation Drive in Goodwill.

Third degree Black Belt and operator of the Dominica Branch, Sensei Shannah Robin, said the opening of the academy was his dream becoming a reality.

In his remarks Robin said that he honors and owes a great deal of his success to the founder of Purple Dragon Academy, Professor Don Jacob.

“I am lost for words … this is a very emotional time for me as well it is a very happy time for me and I hope that it is a happy  time for Dominica by extension,” he stated. “In all of this glory and achievements I want to honor my teacher Professor Don Jacob … if it was not for Prof Jacob all of this would not be possible.”

Robin said further that he made an oath many years ago that as long as he was in Dominica the martial arts would never die and the opening of the academy is testimony of it.

He further encouraged students to love their parents in all things and always be grateful.

Meantime founder of Purple Dragon Academy, Professor Don Jacob, urged Robin to stay focused. “Remain humble, make friends not enemies and invest in the children and their parents,” he said.

The Academy provides a safe environment for individuals and families to learn effective martial art skills while practicing integrity, respect and determination to continually grow and better oneself.

Purple Dragon International Don Jitsu Ryu System is considered one of the most practical, effective, and complete martial arts fighting systems in the world today. Modern in concept yet ancient in origin, it blends well with many of the traditional martial arts styles such as Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Jiu-Jutsu, Aikido, Weaponry, Kick Boxing and Yoga.

AS a proud parent of a student of Purple Dragon family, this is very worrysome and leaves questions in mind about the integrity ,validity and honor of this young man.Just hoping he does the right thing and not put his reputation and future of the school in disrepute. This has the tendency to disrupt a good thing that has started.

I am so elated. Everytime i hear or read of your achievements I shed a tear. Simply because I am conscious of your struggles growing up, but guess what that did not interefere with your accomplishments. I am so PROUD of you. Associating with people who positively impacted you coupled with you zeal and determination you have accomplished a lot. I love the effort you are making to ensure that the youth of lovely Dominica hold strongly to pillars of integrity, respect and determination, while they use their time meaningfully.

A child can join at age 3, DNO why delete people comments when they are responding to important information. I posted this last night and you deleted it. Come on man.

Run a story and follow thru on it. One correction to your story. Sensei is a Fourth Degree Black Belt that he acheived towards the end of 2012.

Fourth Degree would put him in the Master rank! In all due respects, he should be addressed as Master Robin! Master Robin, you have trained hard while others hardly train!

Wonder what you did to him to bring that out. There are two sides to a story.

Take your pitiful story elsewhere. Now is time to praise people for their achievements, something we lack here on the island.

Congratulations to Instructor Robin…. this is a long time coming, always had faith in you, we started at the red cross in goodwill, it was one big family ,everyone (parents/students/instructor) looked out for eachother in and out of the dojo, we went on outings etc, to this day the original parents still have a connection though most of our students have moved on to other things, they too are still friends.
With the larger volume of students, this has been lost, my wish is for this closeness to return to the dojo . i wish all the best.

Its unfortunate that a representative from the Ministry of Sports was not there to share this event. Everyday, we tell our youth get off the streets, find something constructive to you with your time. Here we have an organization trying to do just that, yet it gets no support from the very persons who say they want better for our youth. Its sad, so sad!

        February 23, 2013

Be wise my dear, the relevant Ministry Personnel are always invited to Purple Dragon events. As a teacher Mr. Robin would follow protocol and respect those in authority even though they do not acknowledge PD. With God and good parents on Sensei’s side he will continue to prosper.

I wish the persons in authority would respect people too. Sensei is an important person in our society. He can help with many of the Ill-disciplined kids around the island.

The government should sponsor kids to attend this discipline and pay just as they pay to send them overseas to study. This man is doing something good for the kids.
