Secret Bay among top 50 new hotels in 2012

Room at Secret Bay

Secret Bay Hotel, near Portsmouth, has been chosen by Travel+Leisure Magazine as one of the top 50 new hotels in 2012.

The hotel was among establishments from around the globe featured in the magazine’s “It List: The Best New Hotels 2012.”

According to the magazine the hotel, “perfectly fits the island aesthetic but gives Dominica an infusion of luxury and style.”

The magazine continues, “Cantilevered like tree houses, the four villas are smartly designed, and spacious kitchens are stocked with everything from house-made yogurt to watermelon sorbet. Right on cue, a personal chef will stop by to grill lobster tails—and do all the dishes afterward. You can easily lose a week here, lounging on a hammock, or keep occupied with a kayaking excursion or a picnic of all-local ingredients—one of many reminders of Dominica’s eco-friendly vibe.”

Secret Bay website says it “offers sustainable luxury villas and bungalows and is the perfect place for a Caribbean honeymoon vacation, an anniversary vacation or the secluded holiday of a lifetime.”

In 2011 Secret Bay and Rosalie Bay Resort were ranked among the best Caribbean hotels by Travel+Leisure Magazine.

However, players have to redeem code to continue the game.
On the subject of the emergence of a new genotype of human, Polich writes that “the codes to awakening our ancestral endowment–namely, our inner light–may lie hidden within the structure of our DNA. Each time you press the button, the Philips universal remote tries a new code.

Hi from Germany! Me and my husband visited Dominica in 2011 and fell in love with your BEAUTIFUL island. We long to come back! Yeah, the Secret Bay sure looks like a heavenly place and sure IS heavenly. And the initiators or owners really deserve respect! But … WHO can afford 420 $ (mininum!!!) per night!!!??? We can’t. Because: We are not rich. We just want to be on your island for a holiday. Since we have left Dominica, rucksacks on our backs, we have been trying hard to save some money to be able to come back some time. Keep giving NORMAL people a small chance to come. Don’t only rely on still more Secret Bays, Rosalie Bays, etc. The situation here in Europe is getting worse. And air fares, too, are going up. One day, not far from now, only the rich, indeed, will come. The rich alone, however, don’t make your tourism run smooth! Try to also polish up the simple accommodations, try to also offer truly reasonable but nice apartments and not just luxury. Your island does not need such luxury, it is UNIQUE in itself. Don’t just give wealthy wellness-seeking tourists who don’t really SEE your friendly people and are not really interested in the nature of your island yet another place where they can live in decadence without caring a damn. Do try to set up some more places with small shops, small supermarkets, modest restaurants or takeaways that MORE of your nice people will profit from eventually. Improve your infrastructure, let buses run more frequently. Take good care of air traffic and of the ferries. Try to reduce crime (which maybe even gets encouraged by the rich leaving their cruise ships or by the super-rich eating their oysters in a 720 $ yacuzzi villa while you eat dasheen). And advertise! In Europe, too. Almost nobody seems to know Dominica in Germany, for example. Why should a German hiker (with maybe only little money in his pockets) prefer Martinique when nature island is just around the corner?

things like this show me that dominica has a bright future.

people need to be more positive thanks to acheivements like this.

the signs for a bright future are there… and we need to support those who help put us on the world map. Secret Bay for example has done that and there are many other developments that are making more and more people aware that there is a Dominica worth visiting.

we have secret bay, we soon guna get a nice moroccan hotel. we now have a cricket ground, paint ball is becoming more popular, big up to the late Mr. Perryman for putting us on the map for scuba diving

people we have a lot to be thankful for and what we need to do continue in this way. Even screws put us on the map by getting mentioned, correct me if im wrong, on oprah’s show, or maybe it was NBC.

They got it right. They are showing that even in a down market, the best of the rest will always stand out, and cream will eventually rise to the top.
I saw a full length feature on this hotel and I must say that I was impressed. Your efforts are literally putting Dominica on the map.

that is good, but until we stop the raping and killing of visitors, it will remain empty, lets see how long it will be before some poor tourist who is paying $700 US a night gets attacked, and then the place will go like every other outside investment, down the drain and close.
but for now i congratulate you, i hope for dere sake no visitors read about the current violence in DA

I don’t know why we don’t target celebrities who are looking for a ‘getaway’ where they can escape “it all” and just spend time with their loved ones… All we need is to get a few of them to come regularly… And it’s time we start putting together “a few” of these packages where persons on game shows can be given an “all expense paid trip to DOMINICA!” I see so many other Caribbean islands featured. We need more exposure. It’s time we step up our advertising. We have a unique product to offer here… It’s a wonderfully different experience available here.

Fantastic. They have got it right. Concentrate on quality rather than cheap and cheerful. Why try and compete with package tour destinations at their own game on wafer-thin margins? Discerning travellers will always pay for quality and superior, personal and discreet service as exemplified by Secret Bay. Places like this set us apart from the crowd. Way to go!

Congratulations to Gregor, Sandra, Anna and the entire team at Secret Bay. It just shows that if you take an all local product and add style and good service we can make it on the world map.

Please take note. Planning division, AID Bank, DDA,Ministry of Tourism and draughtsmen who are not trained architects: no more crappy so called hotels with rooms looking over the main road, with no private balconies, imitation American food and grounds sprayed with gramoxone…etc. etc.

Its time we understand the market which is high end exotic nature and/or rootsy eco loving, and provide what the market wants. Secret Bay, Rosalie Resort, Jungle Bay, Beau Rive and pioneer Papillote have shown the way.

Seeing that you appear to know these folks personally could you please ask them what’s the deal with them obstructing access to Secret Beach?

      • Malgraysa
        May 5, 2012

When you go on people’s private property without authority is trespassing!

      • Roughcake
        May 5, 2012

They do not block the access to Secret Beach. Even the guests have to swim or kayak around the point to get there. That is part of the experience and attraction. And so could you.

Or if you want to walk along the shore from Pointe Ronde you can get there too. The guests have no private entrance to the beach.
