Tourism Ministry to receive physical and policy development

Bellot

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Legal Affairs Claudia Bellot, has promised physical and policy development in the tourism sector for the next fiscal year.

“In this new fiscal year the ministry, in collaboration with all stakeholders, will seek to update the tourism policy and to conduct a review of the tourism master plan, principally to advance the coordination of those actions that are yet to be completed. The Government, also, through the Ministry of Tourism, will continue to improve the physical facilities at many of the tourism sites by upgrading the existing buildings and amenities and by construction of new facilities, where these are required,” Bellot affirmed.

Bellot was delivering the feature address at an award ceremony marking the end of Tourism Awareness Month, this morning. She also made mention of a few projects that are scheduled to begin soon, including the Roseau River Promenade and the construction of changing rooms at Titou Gorge.

She said, “During the course of last week, the ministry entered into a contract for the construction of change rooms at the Titou Gorge site at Laudat. Washrooms are also to be constructed at a nearby location, at the site, at a later date. We also continue to work on the concept design for the Roseau River Promenade project and expect, very shortly, to move into the final design stage, so that active work on the ground can commence in this new financial year.”

Bellot also urged the public, re-emphasizing the theme of Tourism Awareness Month, to remain cognizant of the fact that tourism in Dominica is to be a concerted effort of the ministry, the Discover Dominica Authority and the entire country.

I love the idea of the promenade for the Roseau River area. I hope the architects come up with a design that is appropriate for the area. The rest of speech put me to sleep. Nothing innovative or ground breaking.

Really and Truly is this the extent of the ideas that a Permanent Secretary brings to the table in this day and age of Tourism Competition and the need for serious attraction to a country …. Better than that , younger , fresher , more innovative , colourful, interactive ideas . I swear this speech if given 10 years ago would have the same effect.
