UPDATE: New West Bridge and Retaining Wall Project

Roseau, Dominica October 26th, 2016 – NSG Management and Technical Services Limited (NSG) are pleased to update the general public
on the progress and status for the New West Bridge, Training wall and River Dredging Project.

NSG have engaged local Sub-Contractors to undertake significant aspects of the project and we continue to work closely with numerous local vendors, service providers and suppliers.

To date, the works have focused on the North side of the new West Bridge, which will be substantially completed by the end of October 2016, at which time we shall then commence operation on the South side of the river.

The new River Training wall is currently in progress and to date 8 foundation sections have been completed, together with 5 base sections. With these foundations in place, the main wall will be completed shortly thereafter.

The remaining critical materials, such as the main steel girders, will be arriving in Dominica over the next couple of months, which will enable the completion of the new West Bridge to be achieved on schedule.

NSG are also pleased that the protective berm (lined barrier) managed to withstand the effects of the recent Tropical storm Matthew, without causing significant damage.

The dredging work has been initiated and a substantial amount of material has been removed from the river, including a large deposit of tarish and debris near the EC Loblack Bridge and between the West Bridge location and the Friendship (Chinese) bridge.

Drone footage of works will also be provided on social media on the publishing date of this press release to give a more dynamic view of progress on this project. This will help give a birds-eye view not available from normal photography or visual review. Click here to view the footage.

Overall NSG are pleased with the progress to date and look forward to the continued smooth progress of the Project. NSG wishes to apologize for any disruption, and we are striving to minimize these impacts.

Is that what Dominicans could not build? Are the Bajans more educated than those Dominicans?
Why should we have to take our own money and hand it over to foreigners ?
Is that the way our country is going to be built?
    18 million dollars: 40% labor= 7.2M, Dominica Social Sec.:7.5% of Labor=0.54 million!!!1
    We Dominicans are so foolish!

To silver Fox: Your choice of words speaks volumes and says exactly just who you are.
There is that saying” It is better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubts.” Rastafari.
Finally, I can see why the political landscape is conducive to what is happening because we Dominicans are so foolish.
We seem not to understand that if we do not invest in our “engine of growth” the private sector ,Dominica is destined to fail.

I’m happy to see some progress. Just wondering how wise it is to push the river so far back though (speaking of the section from the Berean school building). But I see that the foundation going very deep so I hope that works. Other than that this video making me homesick lol..

From the photos, it appears the bridge is being built with the same height as the previous bride. I would have imagined the bridge to be a bit more elevated to allow for the unlikely event we have another Erica-like event which would make it harder for the water level to rise to touch the bridge, or to prevent the trees which may come along with the flooding from getting trapped against the bridge, thereby damaging the bridge.

the height of the chinese bridge that is the main thing to be concerned about this one there building is fine the chinese one by the market is half the height of this one and since it has been bult it has caused the flooding of the lower part of roseau 3 times already one f those times was during erika whe water reached all the way to witchurch
