Athenia Benjamin, a Dominican orginally from Wesley and now living in Toronto, has received an award for excellence in innovation from the Province Of Ontario’s Ministry of the Attorney General for her work providing Process Improvement and innovative service delivery for vulnerable victims.

Recipients of this award are personally selected by the Deputy Attorney General.  These individuals are recognized for work the Deputy Attorney General believes not only exemplifies the spirit of the Prix Excelsior Awards, but also demonstrates strong commitment and dedication to the overall goals and values of the Ministry and the Ontario Public Service.

The award is an initiative in the Ministry of the Attorney General for staff who go to extraordinary lengths to serve the public. Awards are made for both individual and team contributions, efforts and achievements in one of the following four categories: Excellence in Teamwork, Innovation, Outstanding Achievement and Quality Customer Service.

Benjamin, an employee with the Ontario Government since 1989, is presently working with the Victim Witness Assistance Program in the city of Brampton providing service and support to clients affected by domestic abuse, sex assault, elder abuse, and families of homicide victims.

The citation reads in part, “The innovative work of the Victim Witness Assistance Program Improvement Process will serve as a model for other sites in the provision of timely, compassionate and responsive support services to victims in crisis.”
