Young entrepreneurs to be recognized

Two young entrepreneurs will be recognized later today when the Dominica Youth Business Trust holds its 8th Annual Graduation and Awards ceremony, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011.

Coordinator of Dominica Youth Business Trust John Roach says proprietor of Olive Branch Courier Services Olive Blanchard will receive an award for the most determined female entrepreneur for 2011, while the proprietor of Pictastic Photo Studio Josiah St Jean will receive the award in the male category.

“Both individuals are products of the DYBT. Blanchard is coming from under the entrepreneurship development program while St Jean is a product of the well emerging entrepreneurs retreat and also a beneficiary of the DYBT,” he explained.

12 institutions which have contributed to the establishment and development of the Youth Business Trust will also be recognized.

They include the Youth Development Division, the Dominica Agricultural and Development Bank, the National Cooperative Credit Union, Dominica State College, Caribbean Development Bank, Commonwealth Program, the Organization of American States, the National Development Foundation of Dominica and the Cooperative Division.

“Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is expected to make remarks. He was very instrumental in the establishment of the DYBT and played a very important role in its development in terms of providing funding,” he explained.

Meantime 51 Entrepreneurs who have completed programs under the Small Business Assistance Facility will also be certified today.

Presentations will also be made by the First Caribbean International Bank as well as the Commonwealth Youth Programme.

The DYBT will also make a grant presentation of $1000.00 to the Dominica Community High School.

The DYBT will officially launch its website at the event which will commence from 3PM at the Public Service Union.

CONGRATULATIONS, Josiah! You have done extremely well for yourself, and we are just as proud of you! Congratulations also to all of the youth who have stuck it out and are still persevering with their business ideas. KUDOs to Mr. Roach for dynamic and distinguished leadership to our youth, as well as showcasing the tremendous potential that we have here in Dominica for leadership. May the DYBT grow from strength to strength, and may our young entrepreneurs grow into successful business proprietors!
