Berean Christian Academy to open at new location

All is not lost for the Berean Christian Academy, which was severely damaged by the raging waters of Roseau River during the passage of Tropical Storm Erika.

The two-story building located on Goodwill Road, close to the E.C Loblack Bridge also housed the Roseau Berean Bible Church, which was established in the 1980s, at the top floor.

Principal of the Academy, Deborah Thomas, told Dominica News Online (DNO), that plans are in place reopen the school on September 21 at the new location in Bath Estate.

“We are going to reopen on the 21st September,” she revealed. “We are just trying to put everything in place… we are going ahead and start the following Monday.”

According to Thomas, the school has property in Bath Estate located behind the Calypso House and students are expected to continue their studies there.

“In March we opened a classroom for our Kindergarten class there and we are planning on adding to that…,” she explained.

Thomas noted that most of the school’s materials were recovered.

“Basically we are moving forward…some of the materials were recovered…there are things we need but we will get those as we go,” she said. “We were able to go into our building and our school office was intact to be able to get our curriculum, our file, and our records that weren’t affected by the rain.”

She continued, “We were thankful that at least we were able to salvage some items.”

Meantime to avoid a shift system the school in the future is also looking to occupy a building adjacent to the school’s property.

She said a meeting is being organized with the owners of the building to determine if the school will be allowed to use the building.

Thomas also revealed that plans are in place to expand the present building.

“We are going to add on to our present building, we are going to widen it and then we are going to go a second story … we are just waiting on some plans to get that started,” she said. “We are going to widen the bottom, we are going to make it larger, almost double the size that we have presently, and then after that is expanded then we will go upstairs and finish the upstairs.”

She noted that the church will also meet at the Bath Estate location.

An account has been set up at the National Bank of Dominica for the Roseau Berean Bible Church and school for persons wishing to assist. Contributions can be sent to account number 115004090.

Also a GoFundMe account has been set up online in order for persons to make contributions to the church. Follow the link below:

What type of academy is that? For the size of Dominica and the amount of schools as primary, elementary, high school, college and university, Dominica does not need another academy or more.
There are also too many different religions in Dominica that are not good for Dominica.
The Roseau River practically demolished the academy which means it should not be rebuilt.
God is saying something but there are some people who will not listen.

You call the comment insensitive? It is not insensitive at all. You are claiming to be innocent? You are not sensitive about a certain religion in Dominica. You do not fear lambasting it whenever you get the opportunity.

I do not blame you for stating that. I have my reservations about this academy and also those various religions which sprouted up in D/ca in the past few years. They have not brought love, unity and peace to D/ca.
Dominica did not need any of them and would have been better off without them. It could have done very well without them. On the contrary, the situation in Dominica got worst, what with shockingly, increased crimes and many murders as examples.
A small country especially which has many religions should be free of crimes. Crimes should not increase but decrease and as much as eradicated. So what praying and genuine one do they conduct in D/ca?
In bygone years, D/ca hardly ever had one murder; probably every ten years. I lived in D/ca and not once I heard someone had a gun; also never heard it through the Media. So what happened? This is what the just and honest D/cans must ask. Why all those various religions? What good have they done for D/ca?
