Charice Augustine tops Grade Six National Assessment Examinations

Charice Augustine poses with her parents Avanelle Joyce and Samuel Augustine

The Goodwill Primary School has topped this year’s Grade Six National Assessment Examinations.

12-year-old Charice Augustine were among the 596 girls who wrote the examinations.

Augustine said while she studied hard for her exams, she didn’t expect to top the island.

532 boys also wrote the exams.

Kareen George of the St. Martins Primary placed second while Darlon Riviere of the St. Mary’s Primary came in third. The fourt position went to Asaph Telemaque of the Wesley Primary school while the Dyan Charles of the Wills Strathmore Primary School came in fifth.

On the basis of this year’s results government has decided to award scholarships to all students who obtained four grade A’s and one B or three A’s and one C or two A’s and two B’s.

Bursaries are to be awarded to those students who obtained the equivalent of four Bs or better but did not qualify for the award of scholarship. On that basis 94 students were awarded scholarships and 115 were awarded bursaries.

The amount allocated to scholars and bursaries for textbooks and stationery is $500 and $300 respectively.
