The National Co-operative Credit Union (NCCU) for the second year, has awarded scholarships in the name of some of its volunteers to 11 students who sat the 2012 GSat exams.
During the presentation of the scholarships on Tuesday Chief Executive Officer of the NCCU, Aylmer Irish called on the students to focus on the task ahead as they prepare for the future.
“It is important for you, with the assistance of your parents, to begin laying down a good foundation which begins with education. Aim to be the best in your class, ensure that you attend school regularly …do all your class assignments and read, read, read. If you have difficulties reach to your teachers and if that fail come to us at NCCU,” Irish said.
He also called on the students to, “commit yourself to do your best, develop good relationships with classmates who can assist you; have a good spiritual relationship, pray every day”.
The NCCU CEO also had words of advice for parents, calling on them to help the students in every way possible to ensure that they are good role models.
President of the NCCU, Dexter Ducreay, revealed that the NCCU now has over 50 students on scholarships and over the years has spent over EC$100,000 on education for students. “It is now your turn students, to make NCCU and your parents proud …. even when you are confronted with difficulties, remember giving up is not an option,” Ducreay said.
