Dominica has been selected to host the upcoming 2014 Caribbean Baptist Youth Festival under the theme “Youth on Fire; Fully Ignited, Radically Engaged”.
The festival is the 10th gathering of the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship’s Youth Arm and will run from July 23 to 27.
Some of the countries participating in the events are Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, United States of America and our neighboring French Islands.
A secretariat has been established to activate all necessary resources and to disseminate the event locally and to make all necessary arrangements for over 200 visitors during the week-long festival.
The Festival represents a local investment of approximately $100,000 towards accommodation.
Local events’ coordinator, Peter Panthier, said the event will be a memorable one.
“The Events’ Committee is working with a number of stake holders to plan the event and to make the Festival both a memorable and enjoyable experience for our visitors,” he said. “This is a fantastic opportunity to put Dominica on display throughout the region and the rest of the world.”
He said hoteliers, taxi operators, tour guides, water sports, restaurateurs, craft makers will be needed to make this event a success.
Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit and Minister of Tourism are among visiting officials who will be in attendance at our Official Opening Ceremony at the Dominica State College (DSC) on Wednesday July 23rd, 2014 from 7:00 p.m.
Highlights for the five-day events are: Wednesday 23rd -Official Opening Ceremony at the DSC from 7 pm; Thursday 24th – Samaritan’s Feet (about 6,000 new athletic shoes will be distributed all over Dominica). Friday 25th – Workshops in the day and a Cultural Night at 7 p.m. at the DSC , Saturday 26th- Sports day and Grand Youth Rally and Concert at the Newtown Savannah from 6pm and Sunday 27th Revival Service at the DSC from 9 a.m.
