Dominica Houston Association offers scholarship opportunities

scholarshipThe Dominica Houston Association is in the process of locating a student who is qualified and interested in obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics at Texas Southern University in the United States.

The scholarship comes in the form of tuition for the qualified student, however, the student must gain acceptance at the University.

Gertrude Florent, the chairperson for scholarship Committee of the Association says this is a great opportunity for young Dominicans who would like to pursue a degree in Physics.

This scholarship will make it quite easier for the young person to study Physics at the Texas Southern University.

The scholarship opportunity is also open to Dominican students who are citizens of the United States.

In addition to this, the Association will be giving out four scholarships this year to students who hope to obtain higher education.

The scholarship of US$500 (total= US$2,000) will be given to four students to go towards tuition at the Dominica State College or any other University that the students choose to attend.

Students are required to send in a 150-200 words, typed essay summarizing a short and long term career goal, including financial needs and community service activities, to be submitted to the organization.

For further information interested persons are asked to contact Gertrude Florent at 1-832-892-9523 or email: [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected].

Here in Dominica the contact person is Marian Jno-Finn at 225-2121 or email: [email protected]

To “Dominican” a blessing is a blessing no matter how small it seem. Especially knowing when you the parent cannot afford it all. It’s the little things that counts. I hope you don’t have kids n if you do I hope u have all the finances (your own pocket) in the world to send them to school all the way through college. Some of us just too damn ungrateful. Ask for 5 give them 10. They still talk bad bout you instead of saying thank you… … man!!!

ungratefulness is like the spirit of witchcraft – be grateful. We are quick to always shoot down some one doing something positive – you criticize yet you are unable to do or contribute. A WICKED SPIRIT

Google the term scholarship then come back here. It doesn’t mean every cent has to be paid. Besides the one offered to the Physics student is a full one. And as for that thing you said about “too much laylay for the money”… get that out of your head. The association can’t give their money to any random person, no matter how small it is. And every dollar is helpful. It’s based on needs and urgency.

You are one of those real Dom-in-a-can. Just about every one who receives a scholarship, knows that there is always a requirement to receive the scholarship, and besides its their money they can do what they want with it.
