Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Petter Saint Jean says Dominica is presently undergoing a revolution in education.

According to Saint Jean, statistics from the former Minister of Education, now Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, revealed that the country noticed a significant increase in educational accomplishment during the period 2001-2011. Based on that infromation, he said Dominica is experiencing an educational revolution.

But, he noted, as Education Minister he is taking it one step further.

“Ladies and gentlemen, as Minister for Education and Human Resource Development in the cabinet of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, I want to take the opportunity of being in the premier post-secondary educational institution of Dominica, to walk Prime Minister Skerrit’s statement on the education revolution one step further,” he said while delivering the feature remarks at the 13th commencement ceremony at the Dominica State College on Wednesday 19th August 2015.

According to Saint Jean, statistics reveal that educational attainment increased by 28 percent between 2001 and 2011. He pointed out that the number of students obtaining associate degrees rose dramatically by 972 percent, bachelor’s degrees attainment jumped by 130 percent and higher degree attainment, that is at the masters’ or doctoral levels, increased by 61 percent in that period.

“I want to state here today, that Dominica is in the midst of an education revolution and you the President, the faculty, the staff, the graduating class, students of the Dominica State College, you are part of that education revolution. I want to waste no time to thank you for your invaluable contribution to the success of the DSC and the Dominica education revolution,” he said.

He added, “The Commonwealth of Dominica is in the midst of an education revolution and I am standing at ground zero of that revolution.”

Somebody, anybody tell the minister “A revolt is not a revolution”.Tell him that teaching a group what to think rather than how to think, making them dependent rather than assisting in developing skills which could be used for independent activity, promoting individual rather than group achievement and instilling negative self concepts and low self esteem (by excluding their ancient history from the curriculum) is defined as TRAINING. The opposite of the above process is called EDUCATION in which LEARNING becomes a Liberating force. PLEASE!!!!!!

If the inability of our electorate and in particular the students whom you were addressing to make rational decisions without receiving H-A-N-D-O-U-T-S is an “Educational Revolution” well Mr Min that speaks volumes for the future of this country; and yes your god Skerrit has spoken so what he says is gospel. It”s so much easier to control a people when we keep them in total ignorance. Then i say again what do we expect from an empty Bag of Coals but Dust.

For several years I have read DNO in Canada and seen the significant number of Dominican young people who are pulling down doctorates in various fields. Then this morning when I read these statistics it confirmed my previous observations.

I thought you might find it interesting know this is coming to the attention of people abroad. It says something about your Government, the Ministry of Education, and those who work in the educational system of your country.

These kids are your future. My granddaughter has her heart set on becoming an animal doctor (University of Guelph). I know how much these goals mean to the students and certainly to their parents. I share a little of your joy in seeing the students do well.

May they continue to make you proud :!:

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist. :-P

How can Dominica be in the midst of an education revolution when the public library languishes across from the $20 million something building. It’s been literally decades and this public library has gone virtually untouched by government spending yet we are in the midst of an education revolution.
This is absurdity and disillusion of the highest order. You don’t have to be red or blue, black or white Dominican or American to realise that this absolute bonkers talk from bonkers people. Amen

. The Minister himself is “mis-educated” how can he really refer to the acquisition of certificates and degrees as education. Worst yet he seems to really believe this, poor fella!

We need to educate people to build a nation and factories, not civil servants to serve others. All schools on the island should be like politnic where people are trained to think how to build and create for their future and the future of their country. The model we have now should be scrapped now. It is the old British model teaching us how to quote shakespear that does not help us think how to build a factory or put water in a bottle. We have to get smart before its to late. We will only produced people who thinks the power is in Roseau . We create two sides fighting for power. The university of the westindes should be closed or changed, all they produced is civil servants not business people to create jobs. Every thing in the caribean that have to be built have to be done by some one else. So we have a bad education.

Revolution with no jobs,PETER PLEASE,GO SELL THAT TO Skerrit not the students.

The educational revolution will contribute to the well being of the country. In time it will create new jobs.

It will be even more effective if it recognizes God and honors the Bible by teaching God’s standards of morality as they have been given to us in the New Testament. This goes beyond “head knowledge” and produces good character and solid citizens.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
