Dominica Seventh-day Adventist Secondary School tops dental health competition

The Dominica Seventh-day Adventist Secondary School (DSDASS) has topped a competition set up by the Dental Health Services Department.

Fifth-form Food and Nutrition students from six schools from around the island submitted presentations for judging and DSDASS finished first ahead of Pierre Charles Secondary School in second place and North Eastern Comprehensive School in third.

Principal of the DSDASS, Carlotta Challenger, spoke to DNO about the competition, which was aimed at promoting dental health through healthy eating.

Challenger said, “The Dominica Seventh-day Adventist School took part in a competition organized by the Dental Health Services Department in with Colgate Palmolive. The theme of the competition was ‘Healthy Mouth for Healthy Life’. The school emerged winner with three presentations, two vegetable presentations, one fruit salad and a healthy ‘coco’-bar. They were judged winner and will be receiving a first prize of a four- burner stove.”

Each student from the class of fourteen participated in the creation of the items, with four accompanying their teacher Heidi Fabien to make the presentations.

    We talk about competition, but come on. Stop being naive. Sometimes we make it seem like we are secluded, no socialization.
