A Dominican studying in the US has won an award for her research proposal on early intervention in Dominica.
Ghislaine Toussaint-Green is a Ph.D. student in International Psychology at the Washington DC campus of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and was one of nine Graduate Research Forum (GRF) winners from all locations of the school.
GRF is an opportunity for students to give poster-style presentations to each other and faculty, gaining experience and feedback at different stages of development.
Green’s winning presentation “Benefits of Early Childhood Education: Does Early Intervention and Parent Education Detect and Prevent Early Childhood Delays?” came during the Washington, D.C. Campus’ first GRF.
She believes the research could assist Dominica.
“I have worked in the field of Early Intervention for the past six years and often thought of how early intervention and prevention could benefit Dominica,” she said. “During the first research symposium at the DC Campus of the Chicago School, I saw an opportunity to do a research proposal on the benefits of early intervention in Dominica.”
Now that she has won the award for the research proposal, the the task is to find funding for it.
“This research, if funded, would provide an early intervention home visiting program in Dominica and research would be conducted to see if children’s development improves as a result of early intervention,” she said.
Toussaint-Green was born in Castle Bruce but grew up between Calibishie and Bense. She went to the Bense Seventh-day Adventist Primary school followed by The Dominica Seventh-day Adventist Secondary School and further went on to the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Croix.
when will we use all these brilliant minds to help develop our island? When will the economic and social conditions will be favorable for you and other persons to return home to help build our homeland. I beg the skerrit government and the opposition to seek those brilliant minds and I promise Dominica will grow.
I am PROUD of you Jessi. As a fellow Dominican and a former student of my history classes in St. Croix. I am not the least bit surprise on your research and gaining your PHD. There are so many possive things that I could say, but, time doesn’t permit me. Again, continue reaching for the stars. I also noticed your last name was extended, congrats on that occasion too.
Thanks to all.
Much appreciated
G.T-Green

That’s really positive. I wish you continued success.
Congratulations!!!!
Ghislaine, congratulations………many innovations and interventions took place in the last 15 years re Early Childhood intervention. I recall ECD documentaries I saw on TV produced by CCF.
The Roving Caregivers Programme – RCP (not sure where it is now) in the East and other initiatives undertaken under the leadership by then National Director Francis Joseph of CCF now ChildFund Caribbean.
I don’t hear much of ChildFund`s influence and leadership anymore since his departure.
Give Joseph a call I bet there will be interesting discussions and thoughts to follow up on.
Early detection and intervention is Key…you are right.
Congratulations! The Chicago School of Professional Psychology is a great school.
Really? Is a real school or a diploma mill? Why aren’t the DC and LA campuses APA accredited? Just asking.
