Several Dominican students of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) were among those recognized, at the Dean’s List Reception on April 11, for making the Dean’s list for the Fall 2009 semester.

President of the University of the Virgin Islands Dr. David Hall commended the students for their hard work, and encouraged them to be examples and motivators to their peers. His dream for the future is that by their efforts, the number of awardees on the Dean’s list recipients would increase each semester.
Additionally, earlier that day, two Dominica students were inducted into the Mu Pi Chapter of the Alpha Mu Gamma National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society. Sandy Bellot was recognized for distinction in French, while Mahogany J. Ambrose was recognized for distinction in Spanish.

Overall GPA 3.5 and higher – as far I remember – I did not attend UVI – at my alma mater in US also and graduate courses you have to earn 3.0 pass the course.

Also on your resume it says a whole lot and to make it to the honor society. It is a good feeling I can say and to see the Gold seal on your certificate – sure makes you stand out. I can say.

All… and I mean… ALL Dominican kids moving to, or are already in the VI should be groomed for JUST THAT: Taking advantage of the educational oppportunities there, period.! Nothing less!
It’s the difference between just struggling to make a living, and making a living comfortably. Believe me.
Many who emmigrate to there miss taking advantage of those opportunities. Anything less is ‘just a notch’ above staying and making a living with the limited advantages available to them in Dominica.

As one going through undergraduate and graduate school…there is nothing of major signifance when one makes it on the Dean’s List. It just says at a semester a student did well. USVI is like a large high school.

If you did not have positive words to say, why did you read the article AND leave that comment? ALL university students have to work hard! Making the Dean’s list requires hard work and determination and it’s of great significance. Maybe you did not make it onto the Dean’s list yourself, or you did not see somebody’s name on there that you wanted to see, but that comment was not necessary! EVERYONE on that list worked hard and deserve their props! CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!!!
Here goes ignorance once again!!! Where you there when these students were up all night making sure all assignments are done? For your information making it to the dean’s list distinguishes students and means they are deserve recognition. And if you do some research you will see that the top students are always on the Dean’s List. Whatever you think of the ‘USVI’ these students worked hard and deserve it… I personally happen to know one of these students and just because of what you said she is going to make it to the Dean’s List again and again and again……………..
The comment made by “diaspora Jew” is rather unfortunate. I am a product of UVI and the foundation that I got there afforded me to compete at graduate school and law school on the U.S. mainland. At the time that I was associated with UVI that institution produced two Rhodes Scholars. And yes I was also a member of the dean’s list every semester that I attended and also a member of the President’s Club. Congratulations to the students who continue to take advantage of the opportunities and strive for success. The recognition received is rightly deserved.
