Twelve students sat the midwifery component of the General Nursing Council of Dominica licensing examination and all 12 passed the exam.
The 12 successful midwifery students are Grethel Peters-Magloire, Maryann Lawrence, Yvonette Anatol-Carbon, Roselyn Florent, Fredericka Frank, and Joanne Paul, Laura Lambert, Dorina Lockhart-Peter, Winnie Joseph, Juliana Darroux, Stever Nixon, and Verlanda Roberts. The six students who passed both neonatology papers are Grethel Peters-Magloire, Maryann Lawrence, Yvonette Anatol-Carbon, Roselyn Florent, Fredericka Frank, and Joanne Paul. In addition, six students passed both neonatology papers given by the same examination body.
The Dominica State College (DSC) successfully trained all 12 graduates in a 15-month certificate in midwifery programme. These successful nurses are now eligible for licenses as certified midwives to provide professional services in the maternal and child health sector of Dominica.
President of the DSC, Dr. Donald C. Peters, said he is very pleased with those results because it clearly manifests the college’s ability to provide high quality Caribbean-focused, content-relevant and cost-competitive training programmes for our citizens. These graduates are expected to implement on a continuous and conscientious basis, the knowledge, skills and attitudes we have taught them. Our nation will reap the many benefits of having highly trained Midwifery staff in our health system.
Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences attributes the success of the graduates to “motivation of students, competent and dedicated lectures and support from the midwives and obstetricians employed by the Ministry of Health”.
DSC congratulates the successful midwives and wishes for them a very productive and highly professional future with empowering of childbearing family as their passion.
