Education Minister Petter St. Jean is refuting claims that the award of scholarships for entry into the Dominica State College isn’t transparent enough.
St. Jean, who was at the time delivering remarks at a ceremony to announce the GCE results yesterday, told the media that the criteria for the awarding of scholarships has remained the same.
“So even if a student get 12 ones and does not enroll at the Dominica State College, that student having written the CXC will not receive a government scholarship. That student must have passed at least 6 or more subjects of CXC at one sitting, with at least 5 grade ones and with grade one or two in other subject areas,” he said.
He said additionally, that student must have obtained passes in English and Mathematics with either grade one or two.
The public’s concern now that the criteria is clear should be what does the scholarship entails, fees…..books…..uniform….stipend for transportaion, what ????????. Cause some people go on the premise of my child have a scholarship and after enrolment is another story. SO THE PUBLIC NEEDS SOME INSIGHT ON “THE SCHOLARSHIP”
Mr St Jean stop telling lies. cause my sister went through that shit with you all. she had to stop college because my mom could not afford it and you all said you was gave her a scholarship and no payments were being made. stop that bunch of lies. Praise God we have family overseas, all heads together made it happen. now she will be graduating in November not oon all you money for sure!!!!
look at your comment again you lie
ha ha. i smell dillusion. that or peter is detached from the operations of his ministry. shame on this pastor.
Minister St. Jean, once the criteria for scholarships are clear and well publicized and then applications are reviewed and selected against the same criteria and by a panel of trained and professional persons, then you have nothing to worry about.
really? I cant say the same after 2 years in the case of my sister. she n went up and down the steps of ministry to get what was rightfully hers, she didnt. it went to a point where she just stopped being seemingly a “beggar”. The staff of ministry would say they have sent the money to DSC, then DSC staff would say ministry people don’t send scholarship money 2 them bla bla bla for 2 years. BY the way she got 7 ones including ones in english and mathematics….maybe she was from country side school
maybe because*
Mr Minister, I would like to know what has happened to the ICT programme at RDPS? the 9 computers that was given to them by the American person remove it from the store room. The present Principal does not have a head, we need someone with a head on their shoulder and a mind of their own . Mr Minister their is a
very brilliant child who is not going to attend school because of an unsolve problem. Mr Minister wake up.
Mr Minister one thing this government is good for is being on TV and the Media BLa BLaing . Mr Minister a child bite a child 6 months ago and u cannot solve the problem. If that parent had dollars in her surname walking with an empty briefcase or her skin color was white the problem would have been dealt with within days. U treat this parent like “TRASH”. Take note that this child will not be attending school until the problem has been dealt with.
Mr St.Jean can you explain to the nation why the government Secondary Schools are doing so badly at the CSEC exams as compared to the private schools? I mean it’s a shame and i believe it deserves serious attention..
This is so for several reasons:
1. Government secondary schools are only allowed a small quota of graduate teachers and an even smaller quota of trained graduate teachers. The privately run secondary schools can hire as many as they want and the government (yes the same Govt that refuses to pay their salaries in Govt secondary school) pays a large percentage of these teachers salaries. So, the private schools have better qualified staff members.
2. The best teachers are not chosen for the Govt secondary school. They are usually sent by their parliamentary representative. So we end up with some really dunce teachers in our Govt secondary schools. And sadly, you cant get rid of them because their parliamentary representatives send them right back to spoil our children. This system is sick.
So as a teacher and a parent I do all I can to prevent my children from going to the govt run schools.
We are thankful for the assistance for some of our children.
We remember tearing down that ministry to be heard. They even sent security for us but I guess he felt the pain of being sent away for the fifth time. The last time proved fruitful when the lion’s roar forced Vince out of his hiding place.
In restrospect, it was fun. The children got what was promised
Please listen to the children in foriegn. lands who feel disconnected.
