Early Childhood Education Month kicks off

Students at the service on Thursday

Preschoolers brought color to the capital on Thursday morning as activities to celebrate Early Childhood Education Month kick off in Dominica.

Dressed in national wear and carrying national flags students from early childhood education institutions and day care centers around Roseau participated in a church service at the St. Gerald Hall chapel to mark the occasion.

The theme for this year’s observance is “Jesus our Partner – Love Him.”

Assistant education officer for early childhood education Vilma George explained that the month is set aside to pay special attention to children 0-5 years of age since these are their formative years.

“Early Childhood Education Month was celebrated in June and was changed to November to give the children the chance to participate in national activities, instilling in them a love for country and we expect that after the activities in November a number of activities will follow throughout the year,” she explained.

Other activities for the month include Family Focus Week slated for November 19 to 23, sports, a national symposium on November 28 aimed at recognizing early childhood educators, Universal Children’s Day in which children will dress in career outfits and a fun day at the beach for all teachers and caregivers will bring the curtains down on November 30.

Activities for the day ended with a march from the St. Gerard’s Hall to the Botanic Gardens.
