Education minister underscores importance of education

Petter Saint Jean

Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Petter Saint Jean has underscored the importance of education to Dominica.

In an address at the launching of an Education Enhancement Project at the Public Service Training Center yesterday, Saint Jean said that the government and his ministry views education as the foundation for the development of the country.

“The government of Dominica views education as the only sustainable strategy for poverty alleviation. We believe that education is the foundation of development both on a personal and a national level. It is indisputable that the greatest asset of any nation is its human resource, more specifically the education of its people,” Saint Jean said.

Saint Jean said that human resource development is at the core of government’s national development strategy.

He continued, “The significant investments which this government has made in primary, secondary and tertiary education underscores the degree of importance we attach to human resource development. During this period of economic difficulties for nations across the world, the commitment of this government in the development of education cannot go unnoticed.”

Saint Jean said however that there are challenges within the Universal Secondary Education system such as the quality of education within schools. He is convinced that the new Education Enhancement Project which will support technical and vocational studies, will help to address that problem.

The project was funded through a US $4 Caribbean Development Bank loan. This initiative is  expected to foster improvements in the standard of work within technical vocational fields.

so they say, During this period of economic difficulties they are not doing enough, infact I have come to realise they are not dong anything at all. University students are facing financial embarassments because of dues owed by the the government for over a year’s period are not paid. I don’t believe that they should make promises they know they can’t keep. If you guys were so commited you should have taken the money from the tickets for election and election money to show their commitment to education and save students around the world embarassments. At this point in time institutions are viewing OUR Gov. as “Boballs” and are considered as being on their list.
