An activity intended to engage the country’s youth in a challenging hunt while at the same time increasing their knowledge of various historical and natural sites in Dominica will take place on Saturday 30th 2013.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Easter Egg Extreme Hunt is the third of its kind and 48 young people are expected to participate in the event.
“Twelve teams made up of four young persons between the ages of 13-25 will gather at the Roseau Youth Center … to take part in this massive hunt which will take the young around the capital and within a twelve mile radius out of Roseau,” according to a news release.
Coordinator of the event, Kerry-Ann Remie, said although the group is embarking on a fund raising drive, the main reason for the hunt is not ‘money focused’.
Each member will pay a registration fee of $15 or $60 per team and funds will go towards the 34th Annual Caribbean Award Scheme Council (CASC) adventurous journey to Barbados.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Program describes itself an enriching, self-development program inviting young people aged 14-25 to participate in four types of activities over a set length of time, while advancing through three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The Award Program promotes involvement in Community Service, Skills Development, Physical Recreation, Adventurous Journeys/ Expedition and at the final level a Residential Project.
Participants design their own unique program centered around their interests and passions, and it is entirely voluntary.
sounds good…. wish i could participate!!!
sounds like real fun. wish I could participate
please do not bring this American crap into our sphere. thank very much
If you don’t want to take part you don’t have to however from my personal experience this is a positive, fun way for young people to develop map reading skills and learn how to work together to achieve a goal.
As a former Duker, I commend the Duke of Edinburgh and the individuals who are trying to keep the scheme alive. These young people need support not negativity.
It is crap. Why must religious holidays be commercialized? Please keep the true meaning of Easter alive.
