Eleven students sponsored by NBD for the Academic Year 2017-2018

Laveda Liverpool of Giraudel is the new addition to NBD’s scholarship programme. This academic year, NBD has sponsored eleven students from secondary schools across the island. The scholarship covers all essential school expenses.

The students met with officials of the Bank at a motivational session at the beginning of the school year.

Staff of the NBD engaged the students in discussions on various relevant topics including “Being a Leader Amongst Your Peers”, “Your Choices Matter” and “Money Management Tips”.

Ms. Lilian Polydore, Executive Manager Human Resource at NBD encouraged the students to remain focused and hoped that the motivational session would help the students to broaden their perspectives and make responsible decisions about their future.

According to Ms. Polydore, “The aim of NBD’s scholarship programme is to invest in these young people for future sustainable development. It is important to us to contribute to their growth, not only through financial assistance but by instilling positive values in them.”

Mother of Laveda Liverpool, Clara Charles expressed immense gratitude to the Bank on behalf of the students. Laveda began her new chapter at the Convent High School this September.

NBD extends best wishes to all students for this school year.

Congratulations young students! I note how happy you are that you were chosen. There is no doubt you have made your parents especially proud of you.
Study hard; be diligent and you will excel and graduate.
Thanks to NBD to have made it possible for them.
    God bless all!

This trend in Dominica is so sickening. You give a child a scholarship, this is great. Cudos. But why market the child on the media like this. This is embarrassing. I mean, you could simply mention the number of scholarship that you give and how much money. Putting the child’s name and face out there is wrong. We need to stop this. Think of the child’s self esteem. Look at the picture. It is clear that some of the kids don’t want to be there. There are pedophiles out there who are preying on poor kids, kids in need. And here are our institutions serving them up on a silver platter.
This needs to stop. And it needs to be done now!
As for my kids, if thisipart of the deal. You all can shove it!
How will our kids learn if we destroy their self esteem?

Did you consider the children just love the publicity? After all they are children. Dominica is a small place. Most people will soon forget their faces.
All the same, it is customary that they are shown. There is also a reasoning behind that. If NBD only stated that some children were awarded scholarships without showing them, would NBD be believed? You should think of what some people would say if the children’s pictures were not shown.
You know, the lottery which is of course different, however similar in that those who won a big amount it will be publicized with their pictures. It is the lottery regulation. Otherwise it would be said that no one won and the Lottery Corporation lied.
This has been a source of discussion. Some winners would not like their face shown through the Media outlet because of security reasons but this is the condition for being a big winner. Just an example.
