Four students attending the Dominica State College (DSC) are now recipients of the Victor Josse and John Archibold scholarships presented by the Rotary Club of Dominica.
The scholarships, valued at $1,500 each.
Kealy Gilbert of Glanvillia, Portsmouth, who is pursuing an Associate degree in Psychology at the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, and Christelle Vital of Warner who is pursuing an Associate Degree in Psychology at the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, are recipients of the Victor Josse Rotary Scholarship.
Clintest Belleau of Salisbury, who is pursuing an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Applied Arts & Technology and Eliyshebah George of Fond Cole, pursuing an Associate Degree in Business Administration at the Faculty of Arts & Sciences received John Archibold Rotary Scholarship.
“One Victor Josse Rotary Scholarship and one John Archibold Rotary Scholarship must be granted to students of the Dominica State College each year, each scholarship has a value of EC$1,500.00,” President of the Rotary Club of Dominica Annie Edwards said while speaking at a ceremony held at the DSC on Friday.
She added, “The Victor Josse Rotary Scholarship is awarded to a student who obtains entry into the academic division of the Dominica State College while the John Archibold Rotary Scholarship is awarded to a student who obtains entry into the technical division of the State College.”
Edwards said the scholarships were increased by two this year scholarships since those for the 2014/15 academic year were not taken up for various reasons.
She encouraged the scholarship recipients to show appreciation for opportunity by adhering to the terms and conditions of the scholarship.
“Most important you should work diligently in your chosen fields of study and maintain consistently good grades. Such an opportunity will only knock at your door once, so make the best of it,” she stated.
Director of Student Services at the DSC, Edgar Hunter, thanked the Rotary Club for the scholarships.
“As director of student services you hear the stories from day-to-day of the number of students at college who are in need, students who struggle to pay their tuitions, students who struggle to pay bus fares to come to school, and when organizations like Rotary come forward to assist our students you just have to be thankful,” he explained.
He also encouraged students to work hard.
“College is difficult but you have to burn the midnight light and you will get the reward,” Hunter explained.
He called on other organizations to come forward to assist students who are struggling to pay tuition at the DSC.
The scholarship, an initiative of the Rotary Club of Dominica started 14 year ago.

What do you mean by that? If it were you would you not be appreciative or you are not interested in pursuing a diploma or degree? If so, do not complain and blame anyone when you or some people are unable to obtain employment.
