Grand Fond Primary School celebrates 60 years

Participants at the opening ecumenical service

The Grand Fond Primary School kicked off a week of activities to celebrate its 60th anniversary with a thanksgiving ecumenical service on Sunday, December 9.

The service began at 11.00 am at the school building with hymns of praise and worship.

Past principals, teachers and pupils both past and present, gathered to praise God for the institution’s 6 decades of existence.

Former teacher at the school, Maudrie Dailey, gave the exhortation and former Principal Magnus Williams delivered the closing prayer.

The  morning activity ended with refreshments provided by the school.

In the afternoon, it was time for cricket when former students (Old Boys) challenged present students (Young Boys).

The villagers turned out in large numbers to witness the match. The Young Boys defeated the Old Boys but the most valuable player, Joel Lawrence, was part of the Old Boys team. The trophy for this activity was donated by Abraham Browne, a villager

Organizers are describing the opening activities for the observance of the school’s 60th anniversary as very successful .

The theme for the week long celebration is ‘Advancing the Cause of Education – 60 Years and Beyond.’
