Proprietor of Jays Book Store, John Lewis has contributed $20,000 to the Education Trust Fund.

Lewis made that presentation at a press conference held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on Monday.

“I am here this afternoon to make a presentation to the Education Trust Fund which is something we have been doing from inception, I think its 1981 that this began,” he said

According to Lewis, the company has never stopped contributing to the Education Trust Fund since, “because we believe that education is an important thing in the life of a child and in the life of a country, and we believe that each child should be given that opportunity.”

Lewis revealed that the company’s first contribution in 1981 was $50 which at the time was a substantial amount.

“One of the other reasons that we make this contribution is because I am the recipient of assistance to go to school from the Dominica Jaycees and I dare say that had they not come to my assistance I would not definitely not be able to attend school,” he stated.

He hopes the contribution touches the lives of a child, “or the lives of some children.”

Education Minister, Petter Saint Jean expressed his profound thanks to Lewis and Jays Bookstore for their continued commitment to the development of young people in Dominica, saying the government of Dominica cannot do it alone.

“It takes the commitment, the intervention of individuals and business concerns like Jays Bookstore and many others around Dominica to ensure that we can impact on the lives of young people who otherwise would not have the opportunity to access quality high school education,” he said.

educator…….yes he is generous…..but ask him how he is benitting handsomely from the public purse through concessions etc. Didn’t you hear skerritt mentioned his name in the house of assembly during the debate????????????

      A true Labourite

So nowadays Mr. Skerrit just has to mention a person’s name and he or she becomes public enemy number one and he or she is benefitting handsomely from something he or she doesn’t deserve? Never mind the person’s years of toil sweat and tears and sacrifice, you would want to destroy that with one stroke of a pen through innuendos about a subject that you obviously know absolutely nothing about? I thought the man said he has been doing this since 1981 and started by giving $50?

I think that you and people like you who live from day to day to do nothing but kill and destroy with mouth and pen will actually wake up one day and wish you were someone else. Even you will be sick to your stomach about the person you will have become! Watch it now!

I truly despair at how negative we have become! Seems no good deed goes unpunished!
