Major anti-drug rally in Portsmouth tomorrow

Hundreds of students from schools around Dominica will converge in Portsmouth tomorrow for a major anti-drug rally, scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.

The event is part of activities to observe Drug Awareness Month in Dominica under the theme “Responsibility, the Key to Being Drug Free”.

Drug Abuse Prevention Officer for the North, Edmond George, said students will parade the streets with placards and anti-drug slogans as they seek to bring out the anti-drug message in the community

“Following the match, students and parents will gather at the [Roosevelt Douglas Primary] school to listen to speeches by resource persons including the director of the unit Jacinta Bannis. Student will also put on various performances,” he said.

An exhibition is also expected to form part of the event.

St.Johns has always been doing the Drug Match, I remember when I taught at the school. We did activities and lessons were based around the drug awareness month . A lot of my students told some real chilling stories giving their first hand accounts of parent, and or siblings who were involved in either trafficing drugs or abuse. Sad sad sad

It’s high time we stop learning the body parts by dissecting the frogs. So long rallies and marches are being organised against drugs in Dominica, yet over the past time we have actually seen an increase in crack-cocaine and marijuana users on the small island of 69000 ppl.

It’s high time these waste of time offices start hiring qualified individuals to create sustainable programs focussing on keeping the youth involved and active. Probably then by getting rid of these old-heads who also need to retire and go and organise some other old-aged rallies, young qualified persons will return home to develop Dominica. Give young ppl a chance. Is all that that have them “junkying”.

It is a very good thing to know that the children of Dominica can see the dangers of drugs, and rallying against drugs, showing the major players that they don’t want it in Dominica, But the kids need to take a stronger stance against this evil,. they need the help of the police and custom officers, (Dominica got a stuck up to mr big man culture) until we Dominican can stop and look at ourselves and see what this is doing to us, All the rallying and lobbying by our children is not going to make one bit difference. one thing to remember we don’t have drug factories in Dominica, and you only about the little man in the street they get catch with X amount of drugs but the big question IS HOW THE DRUGS GET IN THE COUNTRY IN THE FIRST PLACE, SOMEONE IS LETTING IT IN,
