Miss Humanity International contestant raises awareness of humanitarian platform

Earlene Labassiere

Dominica’s Representative at the inaugural Miss Humanity International Pageant Earlene Labassiere visited with students of the St. Mary’s Academy this morning, as part of her ongoing school tour.

Labassiere delivered a speech to the students in an effort to raise awareness about her platform, Child Safety and Abuse Prevention.

In her speech she stated,”Our humanity rests upon a series of learned behaviors, woven together into patterns that are infinitely fragile and never directly inherited. We all should share concerns for humanity and humanitarian causes. I share a concern for a Humanitarian cause which involves you, you the children, you the future of our country and the human race. “Child Safety and Abuse Prevention” is a cause which places focus on the education of you our children about stranger danger, bullying, peer pressure, and just saying no. Much concentration is also placed on the welfare of children, child neglect, child abuse, discrimination, child slavery, labor and abduction.”

The current First Runner-up in the Miss Dominica Pageant has adopted Operation Youth Quake as her charity and although she acknowledges that it is impossible to protect every child, she is steadfast in her determination to try.

She said, “Of course no one can protect their children from everything or foresee all the possible dangers they may face, but with a little child safety planning and a lot of love we can protect them from a lot. As an advocate for children I believe that it is beneficial to help build children’s confidence and teach them to respond to a potentially dangerous situation, rather than teaching them to look out for a particular type of person. Children should also respect themselves and others not infringing on anyone’s right. They should also be listened to. Every child must have the right to provision, protection and participation.”

Labassiere is intent on visiting a number of schools before the pageant in Barbados which will run from the 13-23 of October.

At least the one from Dominica that representing Antigua proud to say She is the daughter of a crop farmer and a home health care aid worker. Netisha spent her early years in Dominica where she was raised in the countryside in a village called Petite Soufriere. Poor or not some people when they relocate they forgetting their roots. Let us see is Community day of service Ms labassiere will take out the make up and glam and put in sweat into the community she claims to represent!

What is going on in this Country, people can just walk into a school disturb classes, distracting especially young men and advertise themselves for pageant for facebook and votes – I find this should be sanctioned by the legal authorities. You are not Ms. Dominica, by the way where is Ms. Dominica 2011 in all of that. The authorities who organise these outside pageants do not have respect for the reigning queen – this ia bad – everybody want a crown man. I find this is total disrecpect DFC should stop this, these women must understand they are going to represent DA we must remember that at all times. Why are we so disperate. Everybody just registering for all kind of pageants is Dominica we representing lets try to maintain protocol.

Good luck to you Earlene….wish u success. On the other hand, this is really an untidy bunch of boys/young men indeed….all of them pants have too much material or maybe they have them too low on their behinds….their shirts need adjusting…their crest needs straightening up…a little bit of pride in oneself and respect for the uniform you wear would go along way.Our young men & women of today must stop and think for a little while longer.

Apparently some people feel when you talk the truth is hate you hating . That is not being a hater when it have neglected children right in her doorstep the issue need attention. If your brothers have children in Dominica/Good Hope and they not talking care of them that is a form of neglect. She doesn’t have to go to Barbados to represent. The same speech she giving in school can be done in the family circle. That whole Africa thing and poverty please!! Her talent for the queen show should be acting not singing cause this humanity sh** is just a f***ing act!

friends this is not the point of the article…and honestly why don’t you try to complement the young men before breaking them down…i get your point…but still u don’t have to beat their backs so…and while we shout pride in uniform…we should be shouting pride in self!
