Music students display high standard

Grade 4 violin student Leanne Christian of the Christian Musical School has emerged Student of the year for the second time running.

She was among 105 students who sat the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) practical exam and the Dominica Association of Music Educators (DAME) practical exams from April 23 – 27  2012 at the UWI Centre for Continuing Studies.

Students were drawn from Henckel and Muriel Studio, Valena Letang, Christian Musical Class, and Huguette  Andrew St. Hillaire.

There were also several independent entrants.

Sixty three (63) students took the ABRSM exams: 17 received Distinctions, 34 Merits and 12 Passes.

Forty-two students took the DAME local exams; 6 received Distinctions, 27 Merits and 9 Passes.

Iyka Dorival obtained the highest score in the ABRSM exam.

DAME Top student is Jodie Johnson a Grade 2 Flute student of Henckel Muriel Studio.

The ABRSM Examiner, Brenda Dykes was pleasantly surprised at the high standard displayed considering the relatively small population on the island.

She has disclosed that steel pan exam will be added to the list of instruments to be examined in 2013 and that the syllabus would be available later this year.

A High Scorers Concert will be held on Sunday 6th May 2012 at Fort Young Hotel at 7.00p.m.

Students who obtained distinction pieces will be performing.
