NYCD to host quarterly youth caucus

nycThe National Youth Council of Dominica (NYCD) is gearing up to host its first meeting of the 2015-2017 Youth Caucus.

The event is expected to be held on Saturday, April, 30 from 10:00 am at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium conference room.

At the first session of the 2015-2017 Youth Caucus, a round table discussion shall be hosted in which council representatives shall report on activities taking place in their respective districts and inform the Caucus of their respective quarterly work plans.

A report on the progress made by the incoming Executive Board in developing an Executive Agenda, Institutional Strengthening Strategy and a work plan to guide the of the NYCD from 2015-2017 shall also be presented to the Youth Caucus for final review and adoption.

“This year we see a significant change in terms of the NYC’s National work plan at the executive level in that we have reduced the amount of activities undertaken per month so that we can focus more attention on strengthening the district level work plans that will be provided by our district youth councils,” President of the NYCD, Jahisiah Benoit told Dominica News Online (DNO) on Wednesday. “We also would like to see in this term that we will have a production of a quarterly district youth council calendar – that will be at a national level – so we have the integration of all the district youth councils, let’s see where they have overlaps similarities in activities that we can pull resources and save resources where possible.”

Benoit said also that the caucus will create an opportunity for orientation of new persons that are relatively new to the whole concept of the National Youth Council, “to give them a broader vision on where we hope the council will go over the next two years.”

He revealed that the NYCD have achieved many of the other objectives that it had set but, in this term the critical objective is to establish an enterprise managed by the council.

“We have been receiving support from the private sector and the public sector in that regard so we want to bring that support to bear in this term,” he noted.

Benoit commended the young persons from across the country for giving input to the process thus far at both the executive level and district level.
