Online CXC multiple choice exams coming in January 2017

cxcIn an effort to enhance education for all, students will soon be able to write their CXC multiple choice examinations online, Barbados-based CXC Registrar, Glenroy Cumberbatch has announced.

Speaking at a CXC stakeholder consultation, last week, Cumberbatch stated that when the process come into effect on January 2017, countries will be sent physical multiple choice papers if they so wish.

“Effective from January 2017, CXC will have all multiple choice papers available online for students to write their examinations online, if the countries want it online,” he said. “If they want the paper, we will send their paper to them. But, if they want to write it online, it will be available to write online.”

However, Cumberbatch revealed that in 2018, all subjects, all parts of the subjects will be available online.

“So, you write our essays online, you write your answers online… you will do your Maths calculations. Everything will be done online,” he explained.

Additionally, he remarked that from 2017, all subjects will also be marked online.

Meanwhile, Cumberbatch stated that the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) is determined to make academic material available to people who do not belong to schools or institutions.

“There are some people who are not in schools, or not in institutions. What we are trying to do there is to create enough materials… where they can go and freely access this information, and prepare themselves or the exams,” he divulged.

The individuals should have access to syllabuses, pretests, and other relevant material, he said.

Cumberbatch noted that local Registrars have been asked to provide the regional council with a list of all private institutions on their respective islands, so that the CXC may work with administrators to set a standard for said institutions.

When the standards are met, the institutions will receive a plaque or certificate to show that they are a certified CXC centre.

Notwithstanding, the registration process for such candidates will remain the same.
