Open House at UWI Open Campus Dominica

The University of the West Indies Open Campus, Dominica, will have its opening ceremony of its annual Open House of the UWI Open Campus on Elmshall Road on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 9:00 am.

We will commence the day’s proceedings at 9:00 am and end at 12:30 pm. The formal opening ceremony, however, should not go beyond 90 minutes.

Fifth and fourth formers from several secondary schools – except the North East Comprehensive and Castle Bruce Secondary, which we will visit on Tuesday, February 1st – have been invited.

Representatives from two of our fellow campuses, that is, Mona (Jamaica) and St. Augustine (Trinidad & Tobago) will speak competently about the various programmes offered by the faculties of our region’s premier institution of higher education and advise students how best to proceed in applying to the UWI. Dr. Francis O. Severin will offer some welcome and introductory remarks while Mr. Felix Wilson, Programme Officer, will speak about programmes available at the Open Campus Dominica.

Students will have a wonderful opportunity to interact one-on-one with our admissions officers later as well as faculty representatives as they seek answers to the many burning questions or issues they most certainly possess. We will also be sharing with students the exciting possibilities of staying right here in Dominica and reading for the Bachelors and Associate degrees at the UWI Open Campus, with the minimum qualifications of five CXC-CSEC subjects.

UWI raise their course fees by $160 last semester and still wicked enough to give pple CD when they supposed to get books. So at who’s expense we gonna get the books printed?. We cant study from no CD. NOT FAIR AT ALL!!

UWI is one of the best and well accredited universities in the world. People in the Caribbean must embrace and be thankful for this wonderful opportunity.

The tuition fees are reasonable in comparison to the cost for international students in white man countries.

We want UWI to continue building and expanding it’s horizons. There are Bachelors and Masters offered online, that can be done at one’s home, all the wonderful conferences are heard online. It is an amazing experience. I think more and more subjects are being offered as time goes by.

All the best UWI. I feel proud being part of this prestigious university.

@ makes no sense: Are you white? You felt offended? I apologise for my choice of words :-D

Secondly, regarding the tuition for international students in a white man’s country :-D. Let’s take the UK for example. Examine the price for any university in London or elsewhere and look at the figures for yourself and I’m sure you will agree with me. Your comparative reasoning I’m sure may be better than mine. :-D

Of course, since UWI offers many programmes for our Caribbean people and it is recognised worldwide it is my humble judgement to believe it is the best for Caribbean people :-D
