Wednesday, October 19th, 2016 signified the end of the academic journey at the Dominica State College for over 350 students.
The institution held its 14th Commencement Ceremony DSC Lower Campus in Stockfarm with island scholar, Al Parillon as the Class of 2016 Valedictorian.
During the ceremony, he expressed his appreciation and thanks to the staff and faculty of DSC.
Parillon, with an expression of joy and contentment, urged the degree holders to not be deterred from making new efforts even if they may fail.
“Every move that you may possibly make from now on will indeed be easier now that you have a standard proof of higher educational achievement” he stated.
Present at the occasion were the President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin and Mrs. Savarin, the President of DSC, Dr. Donald Peters, other members of the DSC Board, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Marcella Powell and Director of Gender and Bureau Affairs, Kyra Paul.
In his presentation, Peters highlighted the efforts of the people who have helped the graduates along their journey to success.
He reminded the graduates that the road ahead will be difficult but they shall indeed overcome as the staff and faculty of DSC have prepared them to do so.
“Do not be afraid to lead. It is easy to be a follower but even easier to be a leader. Think about it,” he stated.
Powell, who represented Education Minister Petter Saint Jean, told the graduates of the importance of education.
“Never think that you are too small or too insignificant to make a change,” he said.
The Director of Gender and Bureau Affairs advised the alumni to look to life as a journey and to maximize on their certificates and degrees. Paul reminded the graduates that they play an important role in creating their own world.
Three hundred and nineteen associate degrees and 34 certificates were conferred on the graduates in a wide range of disciplines.
Thirty-three graduated with honors, having obtained a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or above
NEP here we come!!!
I pray that the Government has in place some job training and jobs ready for these brilliant students who have worked so hard to achieve their degree ., and not allow them to get frustrated and take to drugs and all the other ills. It is the responsibility of every Government to ensure its people are developed continuously. Do not make the end of Dominica state college be the end of your responsibility as a Government . Too many young persons are sitting idle at home with a degree because there is no employment and in some cases because their parents support another political party and not the Government . A failed development of the young people is a failed government. Let us embrace every one to stop political discrimination , hence nation division.
Congratulations, you are all qualified for NEP now.
Congratulation’s to all the student’s who graduated from the Dominica State Collage may you all continue to excel in all your endeavors, God bless all of you!!
Where are the jobs. What avenues are there for these young people to create their own jobs?
Congrats to all grandaunts, wish you the best in your future endeavors. Gone one question though, why is it that after students work so hard for their accomplishments they have to pay $300 to graduate. They spend two years paying tuition and work hard and they still have to pay for their reward. If the choose not to attend the ceremony they have to pay $175 for their diploma. I find it ridiculous. Fine you can charge a rental fee for the gown , but why do i have to pay to graduate. Its like tell me after I work for my salary , I now have to pay you to write me a check.
“Over 350 climax educational journey at DSC”
Hmmm…were they having an orgy on campus????
Ask Dr. Peters. He is the expert.
Congrats to all. Now send in your resume for jobs.
Congratulations!! to all Graduates, our furture Leaders, the sky is the limit, Do not sell your selves Short! well spoken young Man, the furture looks promising, Stay Focus.
out of the the over 350 students who graduated, there was 1 outstanding young man there and no mention was made of him, The only blind graduate the college has ever had, he made it from primary to college, only one and no mention was made, Congrats Loick Charles. Keep on making us proud. Disability is not inability.
Loick Charles got the loudest applause and ovation at the ceremony. His fellow graduates gave him his just recognition. You would think the media would have taken note eh.
Nobody climaxed at DSC today…to the best of my knowledge or our collective knowledge. LOL
