For the fourth time the Paix Bouche Primary School has captured the top spot in the annual Kweyol Spelling Bee Competition.
Nine-year-old Kyne George, a Grade Four student from the school, outshone nine other competitors in the final leg of the competition which was held at the Arawak House of Culture on Wednesday.
Speaking to members of the media, moments after being showered with gifts and the winning trophy, George said he felt “good” to be the winner.
He said he received assistance from his teachers and principal in preparation for the competition and he is satisfied with his performance.
George received $200 compliments the Francophonie Commission, one tablet compliments Digicel, a gift pack of book from the Division of Culture, a trophy and a plaque, courtesy the Sign Man.
His proud father Alexis George, said he is thankful to God for giving his son the strength to “day after day trying to get everything right.”
“I am so elated and I also want to compliment Kyne because he has been really into it. He was so confident, I knew from the start that he was going to be the winner,” he noted.
Kyne’s older brother won the competition last year.
“Even last year when his brother was practicing he knew the words that his brother spelt,” his father said.
The Bense Primary School’s Naheem Leblanc secured second place.
He received $250 from Big Edge Financial Express, a gift pack of books from the Division of Culture and Jays Ltd, and a trophy.
Sarah Francis, of the Massacre Primary School, got third place position.
She received $100 from Big Edge Financial Express, a gift pack of books from the Division of Culture and Jays Ltd and a trophy.
Other finalists received gift packages from the Division of Culture and Jays Ltd, a gift bag from Josephine Gabrielle and Co. Ltd, and participatory trophies.
Chief Judge, Sonia Akpa, pointed out that finalists had problems with the accents and nasal sound of the Kweyol words.
“We had a very good competition. The problem I think they had most were the accents and the nasals,” she said. ” Overall I think they did a very good job and it holds a lot of promise for the Kweyol language.”
The competition is a collaborative effort of the Division of Culture, the National Cultural Council and the Komite pou Etid Kweyol (KEK).
The other participating schools were San Sauveur Primary, Lighthouse Christian Academy, Convent Prep, Tete Morne Primary, Delices Primary, Coulibistrie Primary and Wesley Primary.
agreeeeeee
poor boy congrats, it will be nice too if this family stops trying to fool us as being perfect, cause we are not stupid. pretend somewhere else!!!
true that wii stop with the lies, kid smart though
Great job with the competition in DA, but I don’t understand what gain do some people have from posing in public what in reality does not exist? probably sickness! Very sad
they been pretending cause they too proud , but that do no good to anybody
Congrats to the strong boy. Despite the popular belief, many families with severe problems actually have too many children, but God blesses the kids.
Good job little man. God protects and blesses the children abused by their own mothers.
interesting competition, but even more interesting is that there are no pictures from the previous years hmmmm, could there be that it is some interest associate with this family???
Great Job Paix Bouche Primary! the kid has sad eyes though, not that happy for the price seems like. but will be ok wii

Congratulations to the first place winner. You look like an intelligent little boy. Your parents, other members of your family, teacher and others are obviously proud of you. To note that your brother won last year. You do have an aptitude for Kweyol. Examples shown in the home and encouragement have aided you to win first place.
Congratulations to the second and third place winner.
To the others who participated congratulations also to you. Competitions are not easy. They are strenuous as well. I visualize at your young age, standing before a group listening to you and of course you, looking at them, knowing that you are being judged is not easy.
I always say, in a competition there is only one who can place first. Each one of you did your utmost. We do say, better luck next time for the others.
I wish all of you well. Keep studying hard and advance in the Kweyol language. One day you could become a Kweyol teacher. Would this not be nice? God bless!
